      • Lopapeysa short film trailer

from David Scott Kessler / Added

dir. David Kessler, US/Iceland, 2013, HD, 15 min. Lopapeysa, a short film by David Scott Kessler merges travel log with surreal fantasy. Primarily shot during a one month artist residency in Iceland, the film explores the mindset of a traveler guided by a longing to fully experience an unknown place - led by his own preconceived ideas and the landscape’s ubiquitous influence. Often eschewing facts and authenticity, the film seeks to preserve the wonder of first exploration, a naive beauty difficult to recapture and often lost to familiarity. dskessler.com/Lopapeysa-short-film Lopapeysa features an original score by Mary Lattimore and Benjamin Warfield.

Due North experiences the North as foreigners, both viscerally and physically exploring this unforgiving landscape and its inherent narratives. David, along with 26 other Icelandic and American artists are participating in the show that opens in Philadelphia in January of 2014, curated by Marianne Bernstein at Crane Arts. Due North marks the debut of Philagrafika Projects. Due North will premiere David Kessler’s new short narrative, Lopapesa with musical score by Mary Lattimore and Ben Warfield as well as video projections that David is creating for the 2500 square foot projection wall of Crane Art’s Icebox space with score by the Ruins of Friendship Orchestra and Silla (múm).
