Edward L. “Ted” Baker ’57 has pledged $25 million to support The Davidson Trust, Davidson College’s commitment to meeting 100 percent of admitted students’ demonstrated need with grants and student employment, but without loans. In particular, this gift will support the Baker-Vagt Scholarship, which Ted and Ann Baker established with Davidson’s 16th president, Bobby Vagt ’69, and his wife, Ruth Anne, to provide assistance to students for whom a Davidson education would not otherwise be financially feasible. The field of “neuroethics” has advanced tremendously during recent decades, raising provocative and profound questions about our freedom (or lack of it) in making decisions and acting autonomously, and thus whether and to what extent we can be held morally and legally responsible for our actions. Dr. Sinnott-Armstrong is the Chauncey Stillman Professor in Practical Ethics in the Department of Philosophy and the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University, co-director of the MacArthur Law and Neuroscience Project, and co-investigator at the Oxford Centre for Neuroethics. Co-sponsored by the Vann Center for Ethics and the Department of Philosophy.
