The Museum Proper is a puppet show conceived and created from start to finish by artist Dax Tran-Caffee. It's informed by ideas from traditional storytelling and kinetic sculpture, resulting in one-off objects that both convey a narrative, but are beautiful in and of themselves. His creations amazed and entertained the crowd at Maker Faire Bay Area 2011.

Official documentation of the Museum Proper street puppetry show at its debut performance on June 4th, 2010 in San Jose, CA at the 3rd annual SubZERO Festival. [A museum collector wanders through the festival, capturing creatures and locking them away, until he comes across a monster that is too big for his net. By capturing the puppeteers one by one the collector is at last victorious, but he must then drag the enormous puppet away by himself.] The Museum Proper is an independent art project, funded entirely by the community through Kickstarter.com (see our pre-production video at http://kck.st/aSTjZQ). It was built by Dax in a little room above a garage in Santa Clara, CA, for a budget of $3000. Writer/Director: Dax Tran-Caffee. Puppeteers: Qarly Canant, Susie Danzig, Stephanie Stewart-Bailey, Dax Tran-Caffee. Workshop assistants: Stephanie Stewart-Bailey, Allison Daniel. Original music written and performed live by Corpus Callosum & Deathat (Avery Burke, Qarly Canant, Andrea Craver, Stevie Hryciw, Erik Ostrom, Kate Saturday, Stephanie Stewart-Bailey, Jason Samaha). Video and photographs by Huynh Yen Tran, Barry Caffee, Rubin Abdi, Danielle Peña, Brian Eder, assembled by Dax Tran-Caffee. Our thanks to everyone who made this enormous project come to life! We look forward to remounting this performance. museumproper.com (official project site) norestforthewicked.biz (Dax Tran-Caffee artist site) subzerofestival.com (festival site)
