This is a very brief excerpt from 'Toeing the Line' as screened at Theatre Royal in Winchester, UK (during October 2011) as part of the 10 Days in the City arts festival. NB: there is a more developed Toeing the Line (2) sequence at vimeo.com/62286983. 'Toeing the Line' was projected onto the ceiling of a three story atrium space (approx. 15m x 8m) within the theatre's reception area, and is a collection of video vignettes on the theme of pathfinding and life experience. Several ‘characters’ (only three shown briefly here) walk separate pathways that split, interconnect or collide to imply serendipitous life events, the experience of loss or damage, or of being unsure of which way to go... Mass produced shoes are worn in each of the stories and so this work draws on attitudes towards collective identities, as well as those of personal agency and resistance, and references the connections between clothing, time and place. NB: there is a more developed Toeing the Line (2) sequence at https://vimeo.com/62286983. The architectural location for this particular screening in Winchester made links between theatrical performance and performances of the everyday, and the collaborative intent of the event was to disrupt the framed view of a theatre through creating multiple performances and experiences. 'Toeing the Line' was watched by visitors as they awaited their multi-sensory voyage through the theatre to explore front of house and backstage spaces, and to stand on the stage itself. The audience encountered experimental dance, video, body documentation, sound and lighting installations, music and live writing. The visitors interacted and interpreted the various works, weaving narratives through their own histories and routes.

Desire lines are tangible proof that people do not allow themselves to be straitjacketed in public space and that they only have one goal: to find the shortest way from A tot B. http://vimeo.com/24915224 http://www.olifantenpaadjes.nl/?page_id=109

from http://bigasslens.com One of the most talked about and universally praised bands these days, Deerhunter, played a show in New York last night and we made sure not to miss it. We here at BAL have been up on Deerhunter since their breakthrough album Microcastle/Wierd Era Cont., and have been following their every move since. With each passing EP/LP, they seem poised to take on greater musical challenges, unafraid to take shift stylistically and grow on their already dense and atmospheric sound. Their latest work, Halcyon Digest, displays the band’s sunny and bouncier side, with pop numbers like “Revival” and “Memory Boy” bringing much appreciated pep to the mix. Other tracks, like the harpsicord infused “Helicopter” or the sweetly sentimental “He Would Have Laughed” follow and build on the emotional qualities so omnipresent in their earlier albums.
