During the summer of 2014, youth in Pittsburgh had the chance to explore their city and discover their future through Pittsburgh City of Learning, a collaborative campaign of more than 20 youth-serving organizations that offered Connected Learning experiences enablign youth to explore their interests, develop new skills, and connect their learning to real world opportunity. Through their participation in Pittsburgh City of Learning, young people were able to take new paths of discovery, explore the city’s rich resources, and gain recognition for their accomplishments by earning digital badges. Digital badges are a new technology that learners can acquire to certify the skills and competencies they develop both in and outside of traditional classrooms—proficiencies that employers in today’s economy value and reward. Pittsburgh joined other Cities of Learning from across the United States in a groundbreaking initiative to leverage community resources to ensure learning doesn’t stop when school lets out. Big Thought and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings have come together to launch Dallas City of Learning. The pilot year of this new initiative will turn summer into a time of engaged-learning for over 10,000 of Dallas' youth. From aviation to zoology to workplace internships, Dallas City of Learning will uncover the existing variety of opportunities for young people to develop new interests and skills and begin to see how they can apply their talents in the real world. We'd like to thank Quin Mathews Films (http://www.qmfilms.com) for their time and expertise to make this video possible.
