Check out the digital experience at: http://futureself.orange.com To celebrate its 20th anniversary, telecom giant Orange, launched the #FutureSelf campaign across the European markets. Created in partnership with agency of record, Paris-based Publicis Conseil, Orange is inviting people to engage in a first of its kind technological journey 20 years down the road to meet and speak with one's future self. Publicis Conseil tapped us at Jam3, to bring the digital experience to life. We used a host of digital enhancement technologies to re-imagine the user's 20-year older self. Faceshift (facial motion capture software) was used on live actors and enabled us to track and replicate facial muscle movement. Then using a combination of 3D rendering, aging simulation browser technologies like Google's speech API and WebGL, a 'living' speaking version of your future self appears, ready to have a conversation with your curious present self via webcam. Users can ask themselves a variety of questions, anything ranging from the personal - love, children and money - to the more outlandish, like the current state of the Justin Bieber or the number of robots in your family.

Enter the magical, miniature, exquisite world that I discover when it rains. I did this video for an ABC Open project "Water Is ...". (abc.net.au/open) For me, water = rain = fungi. When it rains for days on end the constant moisture creates the ideal environment for me to photograph fungi at its glorious best. Find out more about the fungi in this video and my photography process in the blog "A man with a healthy fetish" by ABC Open North Coast producer Catherine Marciniak. https://open.abc.net.au/posts/a-man-with-a-healthy-fetish-60ht8ri/in/tags/botany

      • Protecting Thailand's Mangroves

Decades of over-development, primarily driven by an international demand for Thai seafood had devastating effects on Thailand's coastline and wildlife. As mangrove forests were destroyed to build shrimp farms, coastal villages were left unprotected from mass erosion, washing away entire villages. Saisunee Chaksuin, WWF's Irrawaddy Dolphin Project Manager and passionate Thai conservationist, has worked hand in hand with the community to guide their mangrove conservation efforts; setting an example of personal commitment that really lead to a positive change for people, species and the environment. Through WWFs mangrove restoration efforts in collaboration with local villages, the Thai people have begun to reclaim the lost mangrove forests, and iconic wildlife have returned to the region.

Although the way we read may change, our passion for the written word is left unaffected by format. Who would know better than NYC-based editor, writer, and consultant Andrew Losowksy, whom we met at the offices of The Huffington Post, where he is Books Editor. Losowksy has conceived and contributed to numerous books, including Gestalten's Turning Pages and Visual Storytelling, as well as We Love Magazines and We Make Magazines. In our Gestalten.tv feature, Losowsky talks about the various methods of storytelling in the digital age and why hitting the right note on the web doesn't always translate into a compelling print product (and vice versa). Twenty-nine-year-old Adam Roberts can't imagine spending hours in stop-and-go traffic. It would kill him to sit behind a desk from nine to five. Roberts has carved out a space for himself beyond the humdrum world of making money and paying rent. He has built a custom home on the truck bed of his Toyota Tacoma so he can live where he truly feels alive - on the mountain. Roberts lives out of his truck, which you can often find on in the parking lot of the Mount Baker Ski Area 50 miles east of Bellingham, Wash. He hikes up the mountain on skins and skis down through massive powder. He cooks and sleeps in his self-made gypsy wagon. Living off the grid has its challenges, but Roberts willingly sacrifices convenience to be amongst the trees, deep in the snow. This video profile was shot, edited and produced by Western Washington University students Jasper Gibson, Hannah Leone, Elliot Reid and Annika Wolters. They shot video of Roberts performing day-to-day activities, skiing on Mount Baker and interviewed him in his natural environment.

A digital story I created for a University course. In it, I question why we take photos, whether or not photos serve their purpose, if we have too many photos, or not enough. I share a family story about some photo albums that were dismantled.
