A Missouri disaster response team has recently arrived on the Filipino island of Gibitngil to help the community rebuild a school destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan. The team consisted of seven members. They brought building materials with them and worked to make sure Gibitngil's children would have a building to study in once again. Gibitngil residents worked alongside the volunteers in high temperatures with little shade. Because the island currently has no electricity, the workers couldn’t use power tools, so the work went slowly. Members of the community expressed joy and gratitude that people would travel so far to help them. You can help with the rebuilding effort on Gibitngil and elsewhere in the Philippines.
