I always make a big deal of the first backflip/swim of the summer, so this year I decided I would film it! I filmed it with my Canon Rebel T3i, and my GoPro Hero 3+ Black, and edited the clips in Final Cut Pro! Hope you enjoy this! Oh and the song is: "Murmur" by Broke For Free (Free Music Archive)

A short film that highlights the temporal nature of Vancouver’s West End Aquatic Centre. Opened on May 6th 1974, the Vancouver Aquatic Centre has watched the city as it morphed over the past 40 years. While the city continues to change, the fate of the centre is uncertain. The architecture creates a sense of movement with it’s sloped ceiling, beveled cement walls, and a large pool that when ripples casts reflecting light onto the ceiling. Through documenting the pool after hours and using techniques such as; panning, high/low angle, and handheld shots movement can be captured without the physical body through the use of digital recording, furthermore exposing the interact attention to line and shape within the architecture. A recording of the sounds and conversation was captured during the opening hours of the pool and overlaid on the footage to create a sense of tension and fullness in the facility. In mixing the energetic sound and subjectless imagery the context is altered forcing the viewer to fill in the space and gaps where the imagery fails to produce a clear perception of the space. In Susan Sontag’s, On Photography, she wrote “to take a photograph is to participate in another person's mortality, vulnerability, mutability. precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time's relentless melt.” in contrast to the documentation of the Aquatic Centre where the only movement or participation is of the camcorder recording the space than perhaps the mortality, vulnerability, mutability of this space will be captured in comparison to the actualized use in terms of energy and movement.

While revisiting animation studies done in the past, I decided this body mechanics exercise deserved a better render and sound. In the remaking process I've had a lot of fun experimenting with flat shaders in C4D for the character and vector shapes for the background in AFX. Animated while at iAnimate's Feature Animation Workshop 1, in 2012. Instructor: Bill Tessier "TOTS" Character and board rig: iAnimate Animation and set design: Diego Kasper

                      What are Tags?

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
