As you will know, Nepal got hit by a major earthquake a little over two weeks ago. In this tragic event, thousands of people lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands of Nepalis got affected. Many homes collapsed during the quake, trapping people who were caught in the disaster that happened in only a few moments. Villages near the epicenter were hit hard, but places in the Kathmandu Valley as well. In fact, the earthquake could be felt in neighboring countries like India, Bangladesh, and China, and claimed lives there too. In January of this year, I was fortunate enough to visit some of the beautiful historic and cultural places in Nepal, especially in the Kathmandu Valley. Many of the buildings are Unesco World Heritage sites. Many of these buildings also collapsed or got severely destroyed. Places like the Boudhanath stupa for its Buddhist culture, or the Pashupatinath temple complex for its importance in Hinduism, are landmarks in Kathmandu. This little clip shows some of these buildings, the streets, and people months before the earthquake happened. These were, so to speak, better days for Nepal. I hope this clip can somehow serve as a modest tribute to all those who are affected by the quake. The people of Nepal still need your help. Food, shelter, and medicale care are some of the basic amenities that are needed. At the same time, the country will have to start thinking about rebuilding many of the homes and monuments that got lost and damaged. Donations to relevant organizations such as Unicef and the Red Cross are ways to assist. Please check what is the best way to help in your country. The people of Nepal will be grateful.

300 million women in India defecate in the open. 7 out of 10 rapes occur when women step out to defecate. Women in slums are verbally abused and stalked while accessing toilets. The shame and indignity of open defecation brings with it the fear of being raped & stalked. A $250 DONATION PROVIDES MORE THAT A TOILET. IT PROTECTS A WOMAN'S LIFE. Hillary and I have had the privilege of knowing some wonderful Nepalese people who have come to Huntsville to pursue their education and careers. They are our friends and neighbors and are an essential part of our community in Huntsville. A couple of weeks ago, an earthquake devastated their home, taking the lives of over 8,000 of their people, injuring almost 18,000, and destroying countless homes and cultural landmarks. Our friends are hurting for their people. They have had to be here, across the world from Nepal, and see their homeland destroyed from afar. Try to imagine how helpless this feels. I asked a few of our friends if they'd be willing to share their experience on camera, for people in Huntsville to hear and see. I asked them to make personal pleas to the Huntsville community to support Nepal. In Huntsville, we are no strangers to the toll natural disasters can take on a community. These folks are a part of our community. Let's unite in giving to help the people in Nepal and in praying for the recovery of Nepal. Pray for the Nepalese people in our community. Pray for the country and people of Nepal as they survive through, and rebuild from, this disaster. Give to one of the many organizations that are doing good work for Nepal. mountainchild.org wfpusa.org unicefusa.org redcross.org ----- A very, very special "thank you" to Pete Pattisson for donating the photos in the video.

Cooper, a thoroughbred gelding, was saved from slaughter just days before he was to be shipped. He is in horrible condition and needs a lot of medical attention. Recent emergency family medical affairs have interfered with expenses and the owner needs help to pull him through. Go to www.gofundme.com/exgrandprixjumper to donate
