Three Lenses is a documentary in production about World War II Japanese American Internment Camp, Manzanar, and the 3 famous photographers who photographed there. Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange and Toyo Miyatake. Through their photographs, interviews with former internees, historians and others, we'll learn why and how each photographer ended up at Manzanar. This true story from the past tells of painful lessons we learned as a country about freedom, but now may be forgetting.

Ralph Gibson is one of the few truly independent forces within the art of photography. His unique graphic style is as unmistakable as it is influential. In this film, Gibson is very much the star of his own life as he discusses his colorful childhood, his stints in the U.S. Navy, his time as an assistant to Dorothea Lange, as well as his lean, wayward years in New York.

Penny and I used a couple of Dorothea Lange's depression photographs and went around Atlanta. This is from still photographs and I used an obscure Mexican folk song that I don't remember. The photo is a lesser known Lange of Mexican women crossing the border at San Diego.

One-and-a-half minute vignette made from stills and video clips taken on the BART (Bay Area Regional Transit) subway from San Francisco Airport to Berkeley, February 5th, 2011. I love the feeling of arriving in a new place, when you're hit with that rush of curiosity and wonder about strangers. Putting this video together, I was reminded of the words of Dorothea Lange: "The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera." I've never been a lover of gadgets. This is why I love cameras. Still learning, still loving the lessons. ~Suzanne Ahearne

Selections from the award-winning film, written, produced and directed by JAYNE McKAY for Cloud World films. MAYNARD DIXON (1875-1946), illustrator, landscape painter and poet, was married to three talented and artistic women in his lifetime. His second wife was famed documentary photographer, DOROTHEA LANGE. Many of her personal photographs are included in the film, and more than 400 of Dixon's incredible paintings and drawings. Original score composed and performed by JOHN McEUEN, founding member of THE NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND. The voice of Dixon is performed by DON EDWARDS, actor, singer, songwriter. Superb narration by DIANE KEATON, a passionate collector of Dixon's work. The film has toured the festival circuit and screened at major museums, Autry National Center, Buffalo Bill Historical Center and many more. We are currently seeking a national broadcast to bring more recognition to this remarkable man and his body of breathtaking work.
