www.doubleelephant.org.uk www.stevenpaige.com Filmed at Double Elephant Print Workshop and the University of Exeter, UK, this film follows the work of contemporary artist in residence, Steven Paige as he explores the art of printmaking in response to his practice. Steven Paige developed work in response to the Ted Hughes archive and collaborative works of Leonard Baskin, held in the University of Exeter's Special Collections. His focus was a preoccupation with the more primal aspect of human nature which Baskin describes in a conversation with Ted Hughes as 'crow haunted and death involved'. The residency concluded with Steven Paige's exhibition in the Forum at the University of Exeter 'A Treatise on Beasts (after Physiologus)'. Steven Paige's artist residency formed an integral part of Double Elephant's contemporary artist bursary programmes in 2013. None of the artists involved in the bursary programme were printmakers and specialised in a range of disciplines including: 3D, site-specific installation, music, art action & performance. The aims were two-fold. To see how offering the chance to mid-career artists to explore printmaking over a period of time could develop and enhance their practice. And, through seeing alternative approaches and traditional processes challenged by the participating artists, further understand the nature of printmaking. This inquiry continues in 2014-2015 with Double Elephant's Redefining Print project and the commissioning of a further four artists to make new work on this theme. There will be a symposium and exhibition in Exeter on 19th November 2015.

Some results from a drop-in Print/Animation session I ran with Simon & Lynn from Double Elephant Print Workshop at IMPACT 8 Print Conference in Dundee. Delegates had a chance to sample our print/animation workshop model that we have been using for about a year in schools, museums and art centres around the South West UK. The participants gravitated towards monotype as a technique this time, which created some interesting results. www.doubleelephant.org.uk

www.doubleelephant.org.uk Double Elephant's 'Print on Prescription' scheme enables mental health service users to access affordable printmaking on a regular basis. This film follows two participants of the scheme as they experiment with printmaking and talk about the positive effect that the course has had. Double Elephant Print Workshop has worked in the Arts and Health sector for over 12 years. Printmaking is a medium that particularly lends itself to building confidence in art making. There is safety in the process which allows for unexpected outcomes and effects. Printmaking also bridges the gap between art and craft making which provides several benefits that unstructured art does not.
