Adjust the downhaul and the outhaul together. That means, the more you downhaul, the more you outhaul. And, the less you downhaul, the less you outhaul. In order to see the looseness on the leech when downhauling, the upper leech must be lying on the ground. Do not downhaul beyond the white mark on the leech. If, after downhauling to the white mark, you are still overpowered, apply more outhaul, or switch to a smaller sail.

How-To: Properly threading your downhaul line makes tensioning the rig easier! It might take you an extra minute or two to rig the first time you use this method, but once you get the system down you'll be rigging up faster and more efficiently than ever (less rope breakage, less back ache from high rig tensions). Give it a try!
