Angela and Anneliese try out scooter diving for the first time! Zipping over the reef and through the kelp, with a few backflips along the way to "The Mystery Barge." It’s assumed this 100ft long shipping vessel carried the supplies used to construct the Breakwater jetty at San Carlos beach in Monterey, and was likely sunk back in the early 1930s after the job was complete. It now serves as an artificial reef, home to numerous fish and colorful invertebrates. Thanks to Angela and Breakwater Dive Shop in Monterey for use of the Hollis scooters. • Diving Santa Barbara Island and Farnsworth

A group of 11 Global Underwater Explorer (GUE) divers headed to Santa Barbara Island and Santa Catalina Island for a day of diving. We enjoyed some great diving. Visability was 60+ at Santa Barbara Island and 80+ at Farnsworth. At Santa Barbara Island, we scootered through giant kelp forests. The kelp strands were easily 40 to 50 feet tall. At Santa Catalina Island, we scootered from pinnacle to pinnacle. During our dives, we say bat rays, harbor seals, sea lions and tons of fish. Video was taken with a GoPro Hero 3+ Black using ambient light. UPDATE: [1/28/15] I have uploaded a new version of the video. The new version adds a few seconds to end of the video and shows all the divers on this charter getting lined up for a group shot. This video clip was shot by Tomas Stanevicius. One of the worst tragedies in the Red Sea, Salem Express, a 100 meter roll-on roll-off ferry, sank just after midnight on December 17, 1991 in 30 meters of water after striking Hyndman Reef on her way from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Safaga, Egypt. Her bow doors were forced up and open, and electrical outage locked many passengers inside, due to her electric doors. She sank in under 15 minutes...so quickly, there was no time to deploy the lifeboats, which lay on the seafloor. While her official passenger and crew was listed at 690, many report she was carrying as many as twice that. The number of survivors were 180. While many bodies were recovered shortly after her sinking, many bodies remain inside, forever entombed. Footage was taken using a Gopro Hero 3+ Black in Protune RAW (1080/30fps), with 2 UTD Vision video lights
