1. Designing Worlds Episode 250 – With Ebbe Altberg

    from Richard Elen Added 448 1 0

This episode marks the 250th edition of Designing Worlds (and its predecessor Meta Makeover). From its beginnings as a makeover show like those that were popular on RL TV back around 2008 when the series started, Designing Worlds has now developed into the hit weekly TV show on design and designers in virtual worlds as we know it today. For our 250th edition we decided to aim high… and we arranged an interview with Ebbe Altberg, aka Ebbe Linden, CEO of Linden Lab, the creators of Second Life – who are also working now on a second generation world. We had plenty of time, with over 90 minutes of material, to ask about various aspects of SL and its future, and of course we had some questions about the "next generation" product. We hope you'll find the interview as fascinating as we did, and we thank Ebbe for being so pleased to engage with us – and with SL residents in general. In this webinar we will like to share some insights of our Continuous Integration journey within an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) setup. Continuous Integration, automated testing – these were challenges that we had to deal with given that our engineering practice had EDW as the core platform that dealt with extremely large volumes of data, variety of technologies like Informatica, TeraData, Oracle, Hadoop etc. Typically, EDW backend testing requires significant amount of manual effort and only a handful tools supported automating this task in bits and pieces. We therefore had to create a Continuous integration solution from scratch ground up that not only helped support agile development but also enabled testing across different platforms like Teradata, Oracle, Hadoop, Informatica and UC4 . Our CI solution leverages capabilities of various tools and technologies viz. GIT to maintain source code, Maven to generate builds, Nexus to manage software artifacts, UC4 Java APIs for remotely launching workflows, XML based test cases, Test suites are managed via Perl, Shell and Java scripts for reporting & dashboards and Hudson for overall orchestration.
