Pascha McKeough lives about 45 minutes southwest of Woodland Park, CO near Guffey in Park County at about 8700 ft elevation. She lives comfortably off the grid. The sun provides warmth and electricity. A wood stove provides supplemental heat and the spiritual warmth of a crackling fire. She cooks on a propane gas stove. Year-round gardening is among the many features of her EarthShip. This video is an expression of "thank you" from the 28 members of The Harvest Center who visited her March 26, 2011.

The film What do beer cans, car tires and water bottles have in common? Not much unless you're renegade architect Michael Reynolds, in which case they are tools of choice for producing thermal mass and energy-independent housing. For 30 years New Mexico-based Reynolds and his green disciples have devoted their time to advancing the art of "Earthship Biotecture" by building self-sufficient, off-the-grid communities where design and function converge in eco-harmony. However, these experimental structures that defy state standards create conflict between Reynolds and the authorities, who are backed by big business. Frustrated by antiquated legislation, Reynolds lobbies for the right to create a sustainable living test site. While politicians hum and ha, Mother Nature strikes, leaving communities devastated by tsunamis and hurricanes. Reynolds and his crew seize the opportunity to lend their pioneering skills to those who need it most. Shot over three years and in four countries, Garbage Warrior is a timely portrait of a determined visionary, a hero of the 21st century. Earthship n. 1. passive solar home made of natural and recycled materials 2. thermal mass construction for temperature stabilization. 3. renewable energy & integrated water systems make the Earthship an off-grid home with little to no utility bills. Biotecture n. 1. the profession of designing buildings and environments with consideration for their sustainability. 2. A combination of biology and architecture. source: http://www.garbagewarrior.com/about.html

Music by Myskox ¤ : http://www.youtube.com/user/snkra?feature=mhsn The short saga of how i built my little house two years ago, ( 2008 ) with no money and in two months. in skattungbyn, south norrland, scandinavia. I spent the two best years of my life there. ;) it's by no means perfect construction, as there was humidity problems in springtime ( should have dug a ditch in the back ofcourse ) . But the amazing part is it never went below freezing! So even when it was -30 outside, I could just come home at night and go to bed, and even heat it by my body to +7 by the morning.. and then came the sun ¤ ;D i have new ideas for my next house, which will be mobile, kind of a wooden yurt, with big windows facing south, and thick walls insulated with sheep-wool. it will also be a free construction. - coming up some time ;) ps. the wagons belong to my beautiful friends VIDEO FROM THE HOUSE! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcrS4ogfIdc piz bretheren ¤ what ever we dare dream - we shall manifest!

This is the progress on building our earthship outside Santa Fe. This house is designed by Michael Reynolds to capture rainwater, use the sun for heating and use the earth for cooling. Once established the house will have a constant temperature of 70 degrees. Thanks to Earthship Biotecture crew and the many interns for their help on this exciting project. Most of the work was done by the crew in five weeks spread out over a six month period. We should be finished before the end of 2011.
