Photo essays and video projects from indigenous communities facing ecosystem disruption make up the collaborative project Conversations with the Earth (CWE). On October 1st the Film and Media department of the National Museum of the American Indian in New York City in conjunction with (CWE) presented a selection of participatory media projects in Inuit (Canada), Yaqui (Mexico), Kuna (Panama), Maasai (Kenya), Gamo (Ethiopia) and a photo essay on the mining of tar sands in Canada. The screenings were followed by a round table discussion with indigenous leaders who shared with the audience how ecological degradation and climate change is affecting their communities, their culture and their lives in many different levels. This is a small video I made with the help of Aaron Kutnik who did an additional camera to record this important event where different indigenous delegates from all around the world gathered here to screened their videos and discussed with us their climate change experiences.
