This is a scene from the film The House of Usher, but we approached it a bit like a cut-scene from a game. The girl is outside a creepy house and sees a creepy looking nanny in the window, so we cued in some eerie noises over an innocent sounding but quite ominous piano theme and underneath a very wobbly organ which gives a distinct horror vibe without being too over the top. She takes solace behind the tree and thinks to read a letter from a friend which she hopes will give her comfort. We introduce here a theme which would be the theme of the character in the letter she is reading. We introduce a loop also to give the watcher a sense of comfort as opposed to a build up of something scary. You relax with the beat, thinking it can only just keep going. Only the contents of the letter are not of comfort to the girl and the music intensifies as she looks more and more upset and anxious. The music is broken suddenly by the sound of a raven which causes her to drop the letter. As I said, we felt this worked both as a movie scene score, and also as a cut scene from a game in a Silent Hill-esque theme.

Site specific video work to be shown at UCBC, Blackburn. Version 2 has improved compositing and colour. The 'twine' is a reference to Duchamp's installation/intervention at the First Papers of Surrealism exhibition (1942). This is intended to be viewed on screen near to the location where it was shot. 3D tracking, modelling and animation in Cinema 4D, compositing in After Effects and some basic sound work in Final Cut Pro X.

In the Same Room (2014) is an exercise in creating a mood of uncertainty rather than telling a linear story. The disconcerting atmosphere is achieved here through editing and carefully composed sounds by Timothy Nelson. The film's title was inspired by Walter Benjamin's essay, 'The Storyteller.'
