This is my final major project regard environment issues. I have chose global warming, specially about electricity consumption. Using a kind of TV commercial + retro way to style the entire video, I have input two old films, "Metropolis" and Charlie Chaplin's "Modern Times", which both of them are hinting about the modern world, using electricity, consumption, and end up with chaos. This is the same idea that I would like to point out. As nowadays the icebergs are melting, sea level is levitating, polar bears are in danger of homeless. However, it seems so far and not 'affecting' us as much as polar bears. Most of the people are still carefree. Yet, it may not effecting as by tomorrow, it will affect as soon before we realize how wrong we have done. We should from now on, take more concern and care about the global environmental issue. It is not his or hers problems, it's ours problem.

A Tech Close-Up news story about automated climate control in commercial locations in response to real-time signals from electric utilities. The goal is to reduce power demand at times of system overload. Participants in the development of this technology include Pacific Gas and Electric, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, numerous energy consultants, and commercial electricity consumers such as Ikea (featured here). For further information on the project, please visit: http://www.guylevans.co.uk/blog Twitter: @carboncomp Updated university project, using realtime electricity consumption data from 13 locations across the globe (provided by http://www.pachube.com) and converting the data (watts) into multiple sinewave frequencies (hertz). Patch created using Max/Msp and exported as a standalone application. User input allows Pachube API Key to be entered. I'm currently testing and improving the application and hope to upload a public version of it over the next few months. I'm planning on constructing a gallery installation of this project (early 2011), which will consist of a large-scale printed map with RGB LED's at the 13 locations whose colours change dependent on the realtime energy usage (linked to the audible sinewaves being played). I'm uploading my own energy usage as part of the project (No.6 on map display) I'm currently a student at the University of Wales, Newport, studying Creative Sound and Music (BA hons). Credits and thanks to: Usman Haque - Pachube Founder (and all the staff at Pachube.com) I would also like to thank Current Cost, the creators of the excellent Current Cost Meter (Energy Saving Monitor).
