This animation was created as a surprise introduction for my students. I compiled a movie with all the students' animations to present to the community. I taught about 14 children, ages 5 - 8 for nine weeks through National Poetry Month. I chose some children's poems, and baked fortune cookies with the various titles in them. Each student chose a cookie and received a poem. They illustrated story boards, built the clay characters after some direct instruction, they filmed the stop motion with an iPad and tripods (sometimes rigged with stacked books) and finally chose music, sounds and recorded voice overs.

This is a claymation created by a few K - third grade students. I did only one demonstration. While I was away working with another student they created this animaiton sequence on their own. The characters were created during a direct instruction lesson. They grasped the concepts so quickly. I was amazed and super proud! I taught about 14 children, ages 5 - 8 for nine weeks through National Poetry Month. Our iMacs allow us to type in sentences that are then spoken by the computer. It had us all almost rolling on the floor with laughter as the kids tried out different ideas.

During half days our schedule is nuts so we took a break from paper mache and tried out the new block sets.

We are just getting used to the blocks. More are expected to be delivered next week! Eventually, with enough blocks, classes can attempt to build some very interesting constructions. But before then the basics have to be learned by playing and trying to keep up with classmates. A great deal of solid learning in the younger grades can take place between classmates!
