              from Kostas Kallergis Added 15.3K 74 5

"The Wake Up Call" is a short documentary on the politicized street art that has emerged in Athens during the course of the Greek economic crisis. The documentary follows four Greek street artists (Paul, MaPet, Absent & Bleeps) in their attempt to leave an imprint on the urban landscape of Athens. Politics, satire and colours are merged together to create an outdoor manifestation of ideas, far from the dominant ideology. By documenting the work of the four artivists, "The Wake Up Call" reveals an attempt to force a political awakening on crisis-stricken Greece through street art. Mécaniques Discursives An installation by Fred Penelle & Yannick Jacquet “While the passage of time seems to accelerate every day, Fred Penelle and Yannick Jacquet offer a pause, a suspension, a breath. A strange mechanism stretches across the wall, populated with shadowy chimeras. They are mysterious and yet somehow familiar. Is this a laboratory experiment or the plan for a future network? Minutely constructed like a fine clock, it traces connections, routes, genuinely-false, looping itineraries, inviting escape, inviting dreams. The narrative is deconstructed like a thousand-storied film script. Every effort is made to lead astray, to turn around, to forge ahead. Time is shredded, decomposed, lost…and yet everything references it. Mécaniques Discursives is like a parenthesis between two epochs: Gutenberg’s and Big Data’s. By contrasting the oldest form of image reproduction (woodcutting) with the most recent digital technologies, the installation straddles centuries and contracts time.” Documentary credits: Directed, shot and edited by Jerome Monnot Music composed by Thomas Vaquié, with sound elements by Matthieu Safatly. In our final video that premiered at this year's 99u, we spent the day in midtown Manhattan with Terrapin Stationers. Operating for nearly a century, this printing house has kept up with the times by adding a contemporary element to their business with some catchy—and possibly offensive—stationery. Still using traditional techniques, with a focus on hand-crafted quality, Terrapin offers beautiful engraved stationery with some very unique messaging. from Studio Tinto Added 12.9K 19 13

I’ve been a QI fan for years but I have never liked the opening credits: they just don’t do the programme justice in my opinion. Whenever I see them I get a mighty urge to redo them differently. I finally gave in over the Easter Break and made a little version of my own. Here are some 'quite interesting' facts about this sequence: - This sequence is in no way connected with QI, its creators or producers. Or the BBC. It's just a fan-made non-profit piece. - The stage where the objects stand is based on the backdrop prop behind Stephen Fry on the TV series. - The colours are based on the same object: purple, yellow, black and white. - The engraved look is intended to reflect illustrations you frequently find in encyclopaedias. - The floating characters are taken from the Rosetta Stone, Greek and Egyptian letters, Astrology symbols and numbers. - The wings of the butterfly are a handwritten page by William Shakespeare. - Some of the engravings are of Victorian origin, from the Dover collection, others are copyright free images turned into engravings. - The sequence was created in roughly 3 days during the Easter holidays.
