1. Hotchkiss Foundation's Surf Project

    from Tanya Hotchkiss Added 1,034 2 0

This video was directed, produced, and edited by Kyron Rathbone for the William K. Hotchkiss Foundation. The Costa del Surf project aims to raise awareness of the environment and the potential of Cantilan, Surigao del Sur as a surf and eco-adventure destination. Equally important is the objective of developing a professional surf team composed of locals who can become ambassadors and advocates of the environment. In February 2014, the team started training together with the help of pro surfers Kyron Rathbone and Manette Alcala. Team Costa del Surf/Cantilan is currently composed of Team Captain Charlene "Kitkat" Guillen, Trainer/Asst. Coach Brendo Torrejos, Paul Christian Libay, and Christian Philip "Soysoy" Marzon. Helping with the training are Datdat Parian, Kajing Correos, and Christel Yparraguirre. Also in the video are some of the high school students at the Hotchkiss Learning Center who tried surfing for the first time (they were so excited about it that they wore their school uniforms while surfing!). My Documentary about Mining, on how it affect not only the environment but also the economy of a nation and welfare of the society. In the height of the mining issues here in our country and through various comsultations from my school admin, professors and some advocates, i came to this idea of showcasing the irony on how the mining companies, the philippine government and the society affects each other. This is my thesis project, and this is not a sponsored documentrpary film. Disclaimer: I dont own the background music, Instrumental music originally from youtube.

A video I produced 8 years ago for the NFEC, a not-for-profit that has been a grass roots watch dog for 38 years on issues related to the environmental health of the North Fork of Long Island. I was able to have the support of Stephen Collins a long time summer resident of the North Fork and a supporter of the NFEC to give his time to host this special event.

Well, it was the end of Bike Month, here in NYC, and like bike months of the past, it was like a Critical Mass ride, from a year or so back. The police cut and divided the ride in to little pieces and scared the shit out of new riders, who didn't realize they could be ticketed or possibly arrested. on their sweet little fixies and "classic" beaters.. for not having a bell or a light. From the get go, Someone yelled "Let's ride", real early, and so about 40 people left down 14 St.... was it that they didn't want anything to do with Al Sharpton's agenda, or just not knowing any better. They took off during, some articulate speaking. in Union Square. it was what's left of Union Square. Kind of all bunched up there, in front of Shoemania, Whole Foods and Forever 21.. This guy gave Al Sharpton his bike and off he went, with only a few people trying to keep up. Aside from the minor indy media frenzy photo-op, there was no real TV coverage of this, and the Daily News got a shot or Rev. Al... who's a pretty fast cyclist. on to the ride. The police took off after the kids. That pretty much screwed the pooch for anything more than a tactical cat and mouse game with the Police and that just sucked. I felt like the ride had a different energy. What were they expecting. The threat of slowing traffic down is gonna piss off the cops and they're going to do what they did. They gave out a lot of tickets. We had really wonderful rides in April and in March. I think the key to this all is patience. We as riders need some patience. Because it's enjoyable exploring our town on an evening ride, sharing the joys of a wonderful energy source, ourselves. We didn't get in the cops faces, and they left us alone. I feel bad for the Scooter Cops. Who have to do this month after month. You can see how tired they are of writing inane tickets, and chasing a bunch of people riding around on bicycles.
