1. Video Field Notes: Quilceda Creek

    from GeoEngineers Inc. / Added

In this video, GeoEngineers geologist Brooke Asbury, LG, describes the work her team did to improve Quilceda Creek, in Marysville, WA, for the Olympic Pipe Line Company. The video shows great footage of salmon returning from the Pacific Ocean and building their “redds” (where they lay their eggs within the gravel substrate) by digging a hole in the gravel with their tails, laying their eggs, and then depositing more gravel over top of the eggs with their tails. Spawning marks the end of the life cycle for salmon, and they die after laying their eggs. Some dead fish can be seen in the video, which a natural part of the spawning process. You can read more about the restoration on GeoEngineers website at http://www.geoengineers.com/blog/video-field-notes-quilceda-creek.
