Humane education is an important part of the curriculum at The Nature of Things, LLC, as it teaches children a litany of invaluable skills, ranging from responsibility, to compassion and understanding, to where our food comes from. It also helps to foster an appreciation of our natural world and reconnect today's kids to our environment. The lower elementary students at 2nd Nature Academy recently took part in their first barn duties of the school year. Every student in the elementary and middle school programs partakes in a trip to the barn once every two weeks, throughout the course of the year (save for days with inclement weather).

Imagine going to a high school with an organic vegetable farm instead of a sprawling front lawn, and having the opportunity to learn science or languages among the vegetable beds. Imagine a place where neighbours meet to buy fresh produce, learn new skills, and participate in making their community a vibrant place. This is what the Sutherland Schoolyard Market Garden will bring to the North Shore, and you can be part of it!

At A Rocha, we seek to inspire, equip and engage people in caring for God’s good creation—people and planet. And education is a key to that. Our Creation Care Camp curriculum allows children to explore and experience the wonder of creation through biblical teaching and hands-on science and in so doing connect with the plants and animals, fields, forests and streams and people where they live. To learn their names and how they function. To find out what they need and how we can care for them. And to see God’s glory in each of them. Creation Care Camps—helping to restore people and places in communities across the country. To learn more about Creation Care Camp, visit www.arocha.us/creation-care-camp

This video takes you through the fine details of how to use a cordless drill to generate electricity and measure the efficiency of this process using watt meters and multimeters. This is a bit more complicated than using a car fan to generate electricity, but I find it to be more reliable for generating enough watts to run a car fan.
