    In April of 2015 Dave and Penny Traveled with New Life Community Church on a Pilgrimage to follow "In the footsteps of Paul the Apostle". We traveled to Ephesus, Kavala where Lydia was baptised, Philipi, Thessalonika, Berea, Meteora/Klambaka, Delphi, Corinth Canal, Corinth, Athens and a special Orthodox Easter Midnight Mass on the Island of Patmos where the Apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation as dictated by Jesus Christ. This is a 17 Minute video of that 10 day trip.

          WATCH THE ENTIRE "WAKE UP" SERIES AT BROOKLAKE.ORG/BLOG Submission: it’s a word that has a lot of added meaning in our culture. While being a very hot-topic button, the meaning behind the idea is to love each other out of reverence for Christ. Imitating His example, we don’t do anything in order to get something or lord it over another person, we do everything to give of ourselves. MESSAGE NOTES “Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. LOVE LIKE THAT.” (Ephesians 5:1-2 MSG) “…let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.” (Luke 22:26 ESV) “But Jesus called them to him and said, ‘You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’” (Matthew 20:25-28 ESV) So, what does it look like to submit? World’s view of submitting: • Oppression • Tyranny • Control • Weakness • Male-centered God’s view of submitting: • Freedom • Servant leadership • Choice • Strength • Christ-centered Submitting means to have each other’s best in mind, out of mutual love and affection. It’s a love marked by giving, not getting, designed to bring out the best. Leading and loving is not a simple task. In fact, it may be the most difficult thing we ever encounter. “…giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” (Ephesians 5:20-21 ESV) “Out of respect for Christ, be courteously reverent to one another.” (Ephesians 5:21 MSG) “Wives, understand and support your husbands in ways that show your support for Christ. The husband provides leadership to his wife the way Christ does to his church, not by domineering but by cherishing. So just as the church submits to Christ as he exercises such leadership, wives should likewise submit to their husbands.” (Ephesians 5:22-24 MSG) “Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives.” (Ephesians 5:25-28 MSG) “Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right. ‘Honor your father and mother’ is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, ‘so you will live well and have a long life.’ Fathers, don’t exasperate your children by coming down hard on them. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master.” (Ephesians 6:1-4 MSG) “Servants [employees], respectfully obey your earthly masters [employers] but always with an eye to obeying the real master, Christ. Don’t just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ’s servants doing what God wants you to do…. Masters, it’s the same with you. No abuse, please, and no threats. You and your servants are both under the same Master in heaven. He makes no distinction between you and them.” (Ephesians 6:5-9 MSG) In God’s eyes, he views us all with equal value. Though there are roles we play out every day, God shows no favoritism. There are differences in our roles, but equality in our value. Leading and submitting does not compromise our value. “…there is no partiality with him.” (Ephesians 6:9 ESV) When we live life God’s way and follow the guide who created us and knows us best, good things begin to happen. May we learn to love extravagantly and serve well.
