This short documentary is a rare behind-the-scenes look at Summer 2013 Gezi Park protests in Istanbul, Turkey. In late May 2013, political unrest swept across Turkey. In Istanbul, a large part of the central Beyoğlu district became a battle zone for three consecutive weeks with conflicts continuing afterward. The protests were initially aimed at rescuing Istanbul’s Gezi Park from being demolished as part of a large-scale urban renewal project. The police used extreme force during a series of police attacks that began on May 28th 2013 and which came to a dramatic head in the early morning hours of Friday May 31st when police attacked protesters sleeping in the park. As the images of the heavy-handed policing spread across the world, the protests quickly transformed into a popular uprising against the Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and his style of authoritarian rule. This short documentary tells the story of the occupation of Gezi Park, the eviction on July 15, 2013, and the protests that have continued in the aftermath. It includes interviews with many participants and footage never before seen. View more films like this one at www.globaluprisings.org.

I hit record moments after they closed the back door.I had stayed up all night and decided to finally take that Epsom salt bath I'd intended to take hours earlier... to relax and then take a cat nap for a bit , then go back to frantically packing as focused as I could. ... and then with such beautiful irony, I laid naked soaking in the magnesium bath at 9ish am for about 10 min before loud aggressive banging at the door... in which I arrived at my front door dripping wet clad only in a towel, as a female sheriff opened my door and was apprehensive about the dog on the other side... I told her Jake was friendly, and so was I ....and there would be no struggle and that I was expecting them. They told me I had 5 minutes to pack my things and Jake and I charmed them into 15 minutes while I put on my jockeys, gathered the basics, and tried to find an ADHD pill to pop *SHERIFF LOCKOUT * | Moments after 2 sheriffs bang down the door The Demise of the Monkey Ménagerie Date Filmed: Thursday, January 12th, 2012 raw footage for review by close circle for documentary project in process

by Indrani Kopal Forty One. Just a number? A number in a list? Or forty one homes … not houses … homes. Forty one families. Hundreds of lives. 41 families are all that is left of the once vibrant community of Bukit Jalil Estate. They know they cannot remain. Some of them who remain once worked in the estate. They have been there for 70-over years. They have laboured and contributed to national development for meagre wages. Many have passed on and to take their places are their children and grandchildren. What they want is fair and equitable compensation for the toil. For the years of low wages. For their contribution to 53 years of national development.

The tech-fueled boom has predominantly white and Asian newcomers butting heads with Latino neighbors who are long-time residents. In September 2014, some tech bros in Dropbox T-Shirts who've been living in the neighborhood for the incredibly lengthy time of over one whole year paid $27 to book the Mission Playground for soccer. But the local kids, who have no money, have been playing unscheduled pick-up games there for years – even when the field was concrete and not grass. Hilarity born of privilege ensues.

Several years ago, transportation company Norfolk Southern initiated an expansion of its 47th Street Terminal by covertly buying property in the northeast corner of Englewood. Since the plans were publicized in September 2011, residents have been living on borrowed time, maintaining friendships and traditions while struggling with new problems in their vanishing community. This short is the first piece of a feature-length documentary about the neighborhood and its confrontation with the pressures of contemporary transportation infrastructure. This video is part of a series profiling Chicago businesses, subcultures and landscapes. These short, lyrical documentaries aspire to be art cinema, ethnographies, and experiments in form. David Schalliol is managing editor of Gapers Block and a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago; this project is an outgrowth of his research on social organization and disorganization in urban communities. Dave Nagel is a freelance shooter, editor and sound recordist.
