      • ANTS in my scanner > a five years time-lapse!

        from françois vautier Added 887K 3,783 158

"I installed an ant colony inside my scanner five years ago. I scanned the nest each week..." >This short film is an exploration of the aesthetic of life and degradation.  Five years ago, I installed an ant colony inside my old scanner that allowed me to scan in high definition this ever evolving microcosm (animal, vegetable and mineral). The resulting clip is a close-up examination of how these tiny beings live in this unique ant farm. I observed how decay and corrosion slowly but surely invaded the internal organs of the scanner. Nature gradually takes hold of this completely synthetic environment. The ants are still alive : the process will continue… Part of the WORLD EXPO Shanghai 2010, presented by "OPEN THIS END" music : Franks - Infected Mushroom.

          from Copenhagen Concept Added 865K 183 14

Copenhagen is a User Experience concept that I designed. It is unique in the fact that it manages to bring together classic design, contemporary design, usability, and art. Copenhagen shatters the composite prototypical event patterns people have developed for their OS, Windows. It is a collision of months of research, high visibility, proper affordance, accurate conceptual models, visceral experience, behavioral experience, and reflective experience, all coming together to create an amazing user experience. Licensed by www.themusicbed.com On May 2014 the Catalan Tourist Board organized a social media action in which 5 different artists were invited to spend a week through a province of Catalonia shooting with their own style. This is the result of tiltshifting the province of Girona, probably the one that has the most variety of geographical and landscape locations, where I tried to show the different lifestyles people have with a summertime feeling. • Puzzle Facade

                  from Javier Lloret Added 253K 1,647 25

This video documentation was shot with Michaela Lakova. The song of the video is Photonic Belt by Lenticular Clouds http://lenticularclouds.net Puzzle Facade brings the experience of solving a Rubik’s cube to the urban space. It transforms the Ars Electronica’s media facade, into a giant Rubik’s cube, inviting passers-by to engage with an interactive experience that takes place in the city of Linz (Austria). In Puzzle Facade the player interacts with the specially designed interface-cube. The interface-cube holds electronic components to keep track of rotation and orientation. This data is sent via Bluetooth to a computer that runs the Puzzle Facade designed software. This software changes the lights and color of the large-scale Ars Electronica’s media facade in correlation to the handheld interface-cube. Due to the nature of this building and its surroundings, the player is only able to see two sides at the same time. This factor increases the difficulty of solving the puzzle, but as the player is able to rotate and flip the interface-cube, it is not a blocking factor. http://puzzlefacade.com http://interactive.javierlloret.com Acknowledgement Puzzle Facade was part of my thesis of the Interface Culture master program at the Universität für Künstlerische und Industrielle Gestaltung Linz, Austria. I would like to thank all my thesis’ supervisors for their advice and support (specially Laurent Mignonneau, Christa Sommerer and Martin Kaltenbrunner). I worked on all the aspects of the project, from the concept, to the electronics, programming and design of the interface-cube. But I would not have been able to solve all the problems I faced without the advice, support and help from many people. I would like to say thanks to them, starting with my parents Bernardo Lloret and Jocelyne Pardo, and continuing with: Cees Baarda, Mario Berenguer, Peter Calicher, Nerea García, Vicente Heras, Travis Kirton, Tijn Kooijmans, Rosa May Hewitt, Dolo Piqueras, Thomas Scharl, Jiskar Schmitz, Mr. Stock, Eric Toering, Jasper van Loenen, Dave Young. Thanks to Medialab-Prado Madrid for the help and support, specially to Marcos García and Daniel Pietrosemoli: http://medialab-prado.es Special thanks to the talented Gregor van Egdom for his help and guidance on the last steps of the design and production of the interface-cube: http://www.krekr.nl Thanks also to Ars Electronica Futurelab for allowing me to test the project for this video documentation, specially to Andreas Pramboeck, Peter Holzkorn & Wolfgang: http://www.aec.at/futurelab/en/ Puzzle Facade was coded in openFrameworks: http://www.openframeworks.cc Thanks to Fabio Varesano (Rest in peace) for his FreeIMU library: http://www.varesano.net/projects/hardware/FreeIMU Descripción en Español: Puzzle Facade traslada la experiencia de solucionar el cubo de Rubik a gran escala, transformando la fachada digital de Ars Electronica en un cubo de Rubik gigante en la ciudad de Linz (Austria).

                  • Santoni through the eyes of Bruno Aveillan

                    from SantoniShoes Added

Santoni through the eyes of Bruno Aveillan Santoni collaborates with award-winning multi-media French artist Bruno Aveillan creating a short movie and a series of pictures that talk about manual dexterity, dedication, extended timelines, craftsmanship. The culture of making things is expressed through an elliptical narrative defined by skilful gestures. The process of construction of a shoe made by hand offers the plot of a story that is always the same yet always different, repetition being the only key uniqueness. With a gaze that is both poetic and analytical – an analysis made of feelings, empathy, emotions, because it is always the heart that communicates to the mind, and not vice versa – Aveillan tiptoes into the Santoni ateliers, where unique creations come to life through techniques that are passed on from hand to hand and innovation stems from tradition. He moves lightly, almost unseen, like a lyrical voyeur. The atmosphere is suspended: the images ooze a painterly, timeless aura. Naturally and silently, Aveillan chooses his protagonists: the hands of the artisans, the tools that they use. He isolates the different elements into an abstract and pragmatic dimension. Far from being mere contemplation, the observation follows the course of the loving gestures that give life to the shoes. But it is not on the product that Aveillan focuses: rather, on the process, on the rituals and emotional precision that define the DNA of handmade shoes. Bruno Aveillan’s touch is personal yet impalpable. He works in soft focus using veiled lights that erase the unnecessary. Still, he goes deep, revealing the very essence of an art that Santoni, stubbornly, keeps alive in the era of mechanization. It is the culture of making things: savoir faire as a vision and an essential quality, a sign of individuality of those who create, for those who use it. www.santonishoes.com

New technical possibilities are the mainspring of the today's television. The needs of the viewers seem secondary. Today, watching tv can mean a lot of things: TV via Internet, web content via TV, video on demand, IPTV, cable, satellite, DVB-T, mobile television, etc. But, how do we want to watch tv in the future? In the last few weeks we put together our thoughts and developed a TV experience concept. With GOAB we take the latest trends, bring the loose ends together, develop established ideas further and develop new concepts to provide a possible answer to the question: How do we want to watch television in the future? Check it out.
