‘The Ensemble Of Rules’ is a 3D stereoscopic multimedia documentary, which explores both: the subjective and fragmentary experiences of cultural displacement in Buffalo, NY and the process of application for U.S. citizenship. Using excerpts of appropriated footage, new interpretations of the study materials provided by ‘United States Citizenship and Immigration Services’ and original interview footage. The project takes the form of a 80 min single channel film that aims to open new interpretations of these processes by including interviews with Alma Jimenez, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Mexico City, Rafael Madou-Madou, a Congolese refugee living in Buffalo, NY, and fragments of a documentary piece about María “La Gata” de Buenos Aires, a tango singer and immigrant from Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Ensemble of Rules was made possible thanks to the support of: Department of Media Study, University at Buffalo SUNY / Fulbright-García Robles Scholarship / National Fund for Culture and Arts of Mexico /

Resonance (n). -the quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating. Since birth sound has always been a part of our human experience. However, many interferences come our way causing us to tune out and take for granted the beauty of the sound environment. Life is full of sound and sound is full of life. The intention of this piece is to focus on the average, everyday sounds in a stylized way to bring out the allure of the sound world.

                      from Giancarlo Cutrona / Added

RESTORING 3.15 min - Single channel video installation. Director: Giancarlo Cutrona Cameraman: Rosario Di Benedetto Editing: Giancarlo Cutrona STATEMENT: Restoring, is a single-channel video installation that wants to explore the relationship between an individual and a landscape: The attention is focused - in a pragmatic, but also metaphorical way- on the aesthetics resemblance that Sicily and Africa can have due the geographical short distances. Restoring, means indeed, re-establishing, re-connecting a relation that those two pieces of land have had and that probably history and time can bring back in other forms. The central figures are this young African man and the Sicilian landscape: a big orange ball of sun, dry ground and the blue Mediterranean Sea, are few of the elements of a picture that melts easily together to a sort of ordinary frame, where we aren't forced to ask questions concerning: integration or belonging.
