    What are the career paths in higher education? Dr. Debrah Jefferson shares her expertise, answers your questions and reflects on her career. Dr. Jefferson has had a long and distinguished career in higher education. She tells the DFI Fellows and others starting on their career, "You are going to be awesome." This webinar was recorded on April 8, 2014. Dr. Jefferson is introduced by Phyllis Brust, Director of the Greater Chicago Midwest Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (GCMHERC.org). There is a slight pause at the beginning and an minor echo on the introduction (but not during the presentation). About our presenter: Debrah J. Jefferson retired from Chicago State University in 2013 as associate vice president for academic affairs. She holds a Ph.D. degree from Purdue University, W. Lafayette, IN, in Computing and Instructional Research, as well as a Master’s degree and a Bachelors of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO. She has more than 40 years of experience in both higher education and the corporate workplace. She rose through the academic ranks from an instructor through full professor and achieved tenure as well as developed as an administrator from the college to the university level. She has 30 refereed journal articles and conference presentations. The presentations have been made throughout the United States, Canada, and the Philippines. Dr. Jefferson has worked on various international projects funded by USAID and/or USDA for South Africa, Honduras, Ecuador, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and several West African countries. In 2001, she was part of an educational exploratory mission to Cuba. Her academic positions at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Purdue University, the University of Illinois-Chicago and Chicago State University have encompassed various aspects for faculty ranging from the personnel action process, leadership process, grievance process and development process. She has developed and taught workshops on instructional issues, enhancing diversity, recruiting and retention of students; produced newsletters; developed computer instructional materials; trained teaching assistants; and conducted consultation on teaching with individual faculty and academic units.
