          A new book program at KU encourages incoming freshmen to read a recommended book that will be given to them free of charge at orientation. Students are not required to do the reading, but the university hopes that students will be able to interact with each other about the chosen book. Faculty will hold discussions throughout Hawk Week about the book, so students will also have a chance to meet professors in an intimate setting.
