Legendary type and graphic designer Gerard Unger, regards typography as a language unto itself. From highway signage to the lettering on coins, the work of Unger is all around us. But the most ubiquitous of all his typefaces, must be The Gulliver. As the lettering used by America's most widely read newspaper, as well as several national papers on the European continent, it made waves after debuting in 1993, for its remarkable legibility - while remaining ultra space-efficient. As his career develops, Unger's work becomes increasingly experimental, pushing the boundaries of typography without jeopardizing it's functionality. http://www.gerardunger.com CREDITS Commissioning editor Submarine: Geert van de Wetering Producer: Olivia Sophie van Leeuwen Director: Mattijs Mollee Camera: Hans Bouma Sound: Wouter Veldhuis Editor: Dominique Kools Colour Correction: Maurik de Ridder Music/Sound Design: Pastelle Music Produced by Submarine, Femke Wolting & Bruno Felix http://www.submarine.nl Commissioned by DutchDFA http://www.dutchdfa.com Like Dutch Profiles on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/dutchprofiles

The partners of 2012 Architects make waste superfluous by reusing everything from washing machines, to car windows, to discarded cable reels, as building materials in their creations. 2012 Architects suggests not only a new kind of aesthetic and functionality in sustainable architecture, but also a new approach to design. Rather than designing first and finding materials later, they look for materials locally that could be reused - and then design with those materials in mind. http://www.2012architecten.nl CREDITS Commissioning editor Submarine: Geert van de Wetering Producer: Olivia Sophie van Leeuwen Director: Geert van de Wetering Camera: Marijn Zurburg Sound: Benny Jansen Editor: Dominique Kools Colour Correction: Maurik de Ridder Music/Sound Design: Pastelle Music Produced by Submarine, Femke Wolting & Bruno Felix http://www.submarine.nl Commissioned by DutchDFA http://www.dutchdfa.com Like Dutch Profiles on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/dutchprofiles

                  • Dutch Profiles: Jurgen Bey

                    04:55

                    from Dutch Profiles / Added

Jurgen Bey is a visionary designer who likes to take things to the next level. Bey is famous for his tree truck bench, with classical chair backs cast in bronze, his Light Shade Shade, a mirror lamp that reflects its surroundings during the day, and reveals a chandelier within once it's lit, and his Ear Chairs, big armchairs with giant ears that allow people to have private conversations in public spaces. With Prooff - which stands for Progressive Office, Bey explores new ways of working together. Work nowadays is too focused on making money alone, while, according to the designer, the emphasis should be on sharing knowledge and exchanging ideas. Part of Prooff is the slow car, now still a prototype. When the landscape in which we work is transformed into a collective campus, the slow car will be the mobile office in which we travel. Jurgen Bey takes his time to observe our actions and to discover intrinsic qualities in things that are often overlooked. For this, he ventures beyond the ordinary and creates his own original path. A work ethic he would like to see companies adopt as well. http://www.studiomakkinkbey.nl CREDITS Commissioning editor Submarine: Geert van de Wetering Producer: Olivia Sophie van Leeuwen Director: Hiba Vink Camera: Onno van der Wal Sound: Wouter Veldhuis Editor: Dominique Kools Colour Correction: Maurik de Ridder Music/Sound Design: Pastelle Music Produced by Submarine, Femke Wolting & Bruno Felix http://www.submarine.nl Commissioned by DutchDFA http://www.dutchdfa.com Like Dutch Profiles on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/dutchprofiles
