The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, celebrated their 50th display season at the Biggin Hill Festival of Flight on 14th June 2014. The first ever Red Arrows public display in the UK was at Biggin Hill on 15 May 1965. This video gives a good close up view of the Red Arrows (RAFAT) "50 Display Seasons" tail fin design and their BAe Hawk jets as they taxi out; take off; display; land and taxi in to park at the excellent Biggin Hill air display. As well as the Red Arrows pilots, there are views of their support team "the Blues" preparing and receiving the Red Arrows Hawk fast jets and their pilots. They look like a very tight unit. The 2014 Red Arrows display pilots are : Red 1 - Sqn Ldr Jim Turner Red 2 - Flt Lt Stewart Campbell Red 3 - Flt Lt Joe Hourston Red 4 - Flt Lt Oliver Parr Red 5 - Flt Lt Steve Morris Red 6 - Flt Lt James McMillan Red 7 - Flt Lt Mark Lawson Red 8 - Flt Lt Martin Pert Red 9 - Flt Lt Mike Child The Red Arrows supervisor, co-ordinator and commentator, Red 10, is Squadron Leader Mike Ling, a former Red Arrows display pilot. I hope you enjoy this video.

      • Red Arrows – 50 Years – a celebration

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the “Red Arrows” celebrate their Golden Anniversary in 2014. This is a personal tribute to the Red Arrows who, along with many thousands in the UK, I grew up with. My first ever air show photographs were of the RAF Red Arrows, flying Folland Gnat fast jets trainer aircraft, at the RAF Bentwaters Air Show on 26 May 1973. Very blurry and taken with a Kodak Instamatic camera I have kept the photographs ever since and share them in this video. This video includes other photographs and video footage of the BAe Hawk jets that the Red Arrows fly to this day. The sight of a Red Arrows aerobatic display is a part of British life for many. The Red Arrows (RAFAT) were formed in 1964 and have completed more than 4,500 public displays in the UK and 53 countries worldwide. Millions have seen their superb precision aerobatic displays. 50 display seasons for the Red Arrows. Long may they continue!

My passenger flight in a Hawk T1 over the Lake District, courtesy of RAF 100 Sqn. Route: Windermere, Grasmere, Thirlmere, Derwent Water (on the left), and finally, the only lake in the national park: Bassenthwaite Lake. I filmed it with my phone, which explains the shots of the GPS caused by g-force. I set it to Johann Strauss II's waltz, Wiener Blut. I hope you will agree it is a suitable alternative to classic rock!

Panavia TORNADO. The Panavia Tornado was designed as a variable geometry "swing wing" multi-role combat aircraft. Most of this video features the RAF Tornado F3 air defence fighter variant in the red and white markings of 56 Squadron Royal Air Force. However, the aircraft with the black nose cone is an example of the RAF Tornado GR1 ground attack (bomber) version of the aircraft in the markings of XV Squadron RAF. The Tornado F3 is no longer in RAF service and the Tornado GR1 bomber has been superseded by the Tornado GR4. This is a higher definition version of my YouTube Tornado video with some audio editing.
