Serve and protect. Those are values instilled into our nation’s military personnel. They are not values that can simply be turned off when they return home after deployment. That’s at least partly why an organization called The Mission Continues was founded—to enable post-9/11 veterans to put their skills, and their values, to use. In a nutshell, The Mission Continues awards community service fellowships, connecting these veterans with a not-for-profit organization that needs assistance. It’s an opportunity to serve in their own community, as well as a way to ease back into civilian life. And, now, Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse is helping fund those fellowships through holiday sales of its "Private Reserve" Red & White Gift Pack.

The 2012 CHC Graduate Fellowships are generously funded by The Goizueta Foundation and the Amigos of the Cuban Heritage Collection. The CHC Graduate Fellowships provide assistance to doctoral students who wish to use the research resources available at the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami. The goal of the Graduate Fellowships is to engage emerging scholars with the materials available in the Cuban Heritage Collection and thus contribute to the larger body of scholarship in Cuban, hemispheric, and international studies. This video was created during my time California State University Northridge. It was part of the "Experiential Learning" series for the universities' Career Center. The Experiential Learning series covered six topics, three of which I directly created: Fellowships, Research Opportunities, and Internships. This video combined the elements from the Fellowships video and the Research Opportunity video. The videos have vastly different styles so combining them into one single video was a challenge visually. This Part 2 video has content relevant to both fellowships and research opportunities. Rather than have two videos with redundant material and a longer running time, the segments were broken into the specific content, Fellowships and Research, and the shared content, this Part 2 video which talks about the preparation for Fellowships and Research Opportunities. This video was made available to the entire student body of Cal State University Northridge through the Career Center. The Experiential Learning series covered six topics, three of which I directly created: Fellowships, Research Opportunities, and Internships. This Fellowships video was inspired by a similar animation created by Bran Dougherty-Johnson. Describing fellowships is a rather dry topic so I sought to create a more dynamic and visually interesting video while delivering the important explanation of what a fellowship is and why it is beneficial. Blindboys Fellow Kanika talks about her interests and expectations from this project. Part of the 6° project Kanika will be working collaboratively with selected fellows to come up with a body of work which will be exhibited in the Experimental Arts Gallery @ IHC from the 2n Feb onwards~ Tired of themes the 6° project is based on the idea that anything can be connected to each other. Using it as a conceptual springboard each fellow has to not only come up with a new body of work but also do that collaboratively- all within 3 weeks! Experimental in nature it gives these fellows the chance to play and be free. Please stay updated through the blogs on how each one of them is progressing. www.blindboys.org/blog www.unboxfellowships.com
