Once upon a time, there was a country where the people were relatively happy with life. Without warning, pirates raided and pillaged, walking off with much of the country's wealth. Shocked that this could have occurred, the government apologized for not stopping the pirates. Officials said that if we all pull together, we can get back on our feet. It might mean struggling more, living with less and paying more in taxes, but after 5-10 years, things will get back to normal. Although this might make sense, one important detail is being left out… Once the country gets back on its feet again, what will the pirates do? The pirates will simply return, raid and pillage again, taking as much as they can each time. Fairy tales are allegories which often describe real life. "Once upon a time" could be replaced by 2003-2008 during the manipulated housing boom. The "country" represents any of the many countries that were pillaged when the housing bubble burst. The "pirates" were Wall Street banks and financial investment firms which inflated the housing bubble and profited on the boom and the bust. Now, some might find it hard to believe that Wall Street should be compared to pirates. After all, pirates look for opportunities to rake in money quickly, pirates don't care about the consequences of their actions, and pirates rake in more money then they need so they bury it on islands. OK, those might apply to Wall Street too. But, pirates aren't very smart and Wall Street requires skilled traders. After all, Wall Street CEOs go to Ivy League universities and belong to exclusive clubs like "Skull and Bones". Pirate captains plan raids, navigate the journey on the high seas and inspire a motley crew to execute the goal… is that what a CEO does? Wall street terms like "boom and bust" sound like cannon fire and its result. "Hostile takeover" sounds like what a pirate raiding party does, making the comparison even clearer. If you are still not convinced that Wall Street, global corporations, and most governments are basically modern day pirates, the proof is the growing number of billionaires. Every billionaire is proof of piracy, because billionaires have stacks of $500 bills higher than the tallest buildings, yet they want even more, simply to be the richest pirate. Like pirates who bury their treasure on islands, lose the map and die; billionaires waste hundreds of millions of dollars funding politicians, think tanks and elections to promote more piracy and then die. The moral to this Pirate Story is that pirates raided OUR country and WE are not doing anything to get our money back or to prevent the next raid. This is happening simply because we have gotten used to the corruption and don't think it will ever change. What people need to know is this… IT WILL CHANGE, for the worse. Unless we get the money back and put a stop to piracy, the pirates will take even more because that is what pirates do. How do we get our money back and stop piracy? With our feet and with our vote. Until tens of thousands of people take to the streets and vote for the "less pirate" candidate, we will keep loosing because the pirates keep taking. We must END financial piracy in order to SAVE democracy and our world.
