The solar market, while relatively young, is an increasingly important and vital part of the American economy. What are the trends in this market, and what forces are at work? Which sectors of the market are strongest, and why? What are the prospects for solar energy in the near future? Now in its seventh year, IREC’s highly respected 2014 U.S. Solar Market Trends report answers these questions by providing public data on U.S. solar installations in 2013 by technology, state and solar market sectors. It offers insight on the major factors affecting the solar market, such as photovoltaic prices, strong consumer demand, available financing, renewable portfolio standards in some states, and financial incentives from the federal government, states and utilities. The report includes ranking of Top 10 States in several categories. Solar Market Trends Report author and IREC Vice President Larry Sherwood and SITN presented a stimulating hour on Thursday, September 18 for in-depth look at PV installations in 2013, including growth trends by sector and state rankings for installations.

Aaron Katz is a researcher and lecturer at the University of Washington - teaching in the Healthcare Administration and World Health programs. In his April 26, 2011 presentation to our club he showed how the way we do healthcare here in America isn't getting us good results for the immense amount of money we're spending. He also made the point that, because the amount of money spent for healthcare for teachers and staff in k-12 education and higher education goes up and up year after year - sucking up resources - it deprives the kids of a good education.

Bill Reyerson joined us by skype to talk about targeting reproductive health messages in the community. We discussed ways in which we can get men to consider vasectomies and to generate behaviour change. Bill offered his opinions about offering financial incentives for health procedures, and gave examples of other successful education campaigns that resulted in real change. This event was part of World Vasectomy Day 2013. Find out more at riaus.org.au/wvd
