    • HF100 First Clips: 1998 Honda Valkyrie (HD)

      from Thomas Benton Added 1,481 2 4

I just got a new Canon HF100 (real eBay deal because of the 10% eBay discount coupon!) and needed to try out the camera and test the AVCHD MTS format editing in Ulead VideoStudio 11.5+. I decided to do some shots of my motorcycle for the test. I mounted the camera on a monopod and used it like a camera boom. I didn't use manual settings nor did I use the easy button. Shot in FXP quality 1920 x 1080, 30p. Converted to 1280 x 720p in editing output. VideoStudio handled the format with ease. However, on my computer, it plays individual clips wonderfully, but can't handle full project playback smoothly. No problem with editing and conversion though. I output the project as HDV 1280 x 720p MPEG2, 30p for PC. I then converted the file to MOV HD in AVS VideoEditor for uploading. I think I'm going to love the HF100 and the monopod will probably be the attached handle/stabilizer of choice for most shoots. I also have the Sanyo Xacti HD1A and the Sony HDR-HC5. I'm leaning toward keeping the HD1A and selling the HDR-HC5 (SD cards are soooooooo much easier/faster to handle than capturing MiniDV tape and running scene detection).

This is my very first video taken with my brand new Canon Vixia HF 200. I hunted all over the internet and nearby stores to find this camcorder. I finally got the money only to find out Canon discontinued it. I found one left at Fry's Electronics in Palo Alto, CA as an open box.

          • Top 10 Most Confusing (yet widely used) High Tech Buzzwords

from Paul JJ Payack Added 226 1 1

In a worldwide internet and media analysis, The Global Language Monitor (www.LanguageMonitor.com) has found the most confusing yet frequently cited high tech buzzwords in 2007 to be iPOD, Flash, Cookie, Nano and Kernel followed by Megahertz, Cell (cell as in cell phone), Plasma, De-duplication, and Blu-Ray. The study was released on the 13th anniversary of the ‘cookie,’ the invention that made the World Wide Web practical for widespread surfing, communication, and e-commerce. Paul JJ Payack, President of the Global Language Monitor, said "Educational metrics such as the Flesch Test would place a typical paragraph using these words at the Third-grade reading-level. At the same time, most college graduates, even from the most prestigious engineering schools such as MIT, Stanford, and CalTech would be challenged to precisely define all ten. Once again, the High Tech industry has failed its basic language proficiency test."
