Gathering of Denmarks biggest flycasting nerds... good times casting! All handheld and nothing to stabilize which is why most of it is shaky ass hell. Just a fast iMovie edit no fancy stuff just a little colour grading.

The long inclined section of line produces considerable lift due to form drag on the bottom leg as it propagates. That inclination angle changes to get a more narrow loop by the time it starts to turn over at the end of the cast.

              • Drag effects on Dropped Loop of Floating Line

                from Gordon Judd / Added

The camera was turned 90 degrees to get better resolution for the dropped loop that appears to be propagating towards the negative x axis. You can see the effects of drag and conservation of angular momentum on the loop. It appears to rise and the loop diameter decreases as its speed increases as it falls. The rise (and change in shape) of the loop is due to the effects of skin and form drag that produces a net force in the positive y direction in the frame of this video. The diameter of the loop gets smaller as the loop speed increases in order to conserve the angular momentum of the line going around the loop.

                • Lift of Balsa Wood Strip Due to Form Drag

The angle the strip makes with the horizontal will adjust for different head wind velocities such that the upward component of the drag force will equal the downward force of gravity. Thus the strip will settle into different stable inclination angles depending on the headwind velocity. This implies the droop in the fly leg will adjust to different angles such that the gravitational pull on the fly leg will be equalized by the upward drag force. Naturally the fly end of the line may tend to flutter since the form drag of the fly is quite small. Thus the flexible fly line may not reach the stable positions observed with this rigid strip of wood. But it will tend to find a droop angle balance point just like the strip does in the video.

                      What are Tags?

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
