A submission for Zooppa's contest : "IBM : People For Smarter Cities". The Leaf Ninjas are a team of local food pioneers in Calgary, AB, Canada. In the last 3 years, these young men have made waves in their community through their efforts in urban farming and edible landscape design. Their impact in the community has been immensely positive, inspiring people of all walks of life to engage in the local food system through starting their own edible gardens as well as supporting local farmers. They are helping to research and promote sustainable growing methods such as Food Forestry in an effort to create a truly sustainable food system for humanity. www.zooppa.com

This half hour video documents the ongoing work of Permaculture Gurus, Geoff and Nadia Lawton, in the Dead Sea Valley. It begins with the famous original 'Greening the Desert' five minute video clip, and then continues into Part II, a 2009 update to the 2001 original. You'll get to see and learn about the original Greening the Desert site and see some of the spin-off effects of its influence throughout Jordan, and you'll also be introduced to a new educational demonstration site that was started in 2008. You can see the video, and more information about it, in its original post here: http://permaculture.org.au/2009/12/11/greening-the-desert-ii-final/ And the video is also available on YouTube in four parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzTHjlueqFI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTZ0LbvUoOY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ps1TpK9eiQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8wPD35fewo This is inspiring, practical work - the kind of work that should be encouraged, supported and emulated worldwide. It is the ultimate root-cause type of aid work.
