»Generating Utopia« is a realtime visualization of social location data, made with Processing. Its aim is to show what human habitats could look like if it was possible to transform them depending on the location-based behavior of their residents. The data was taken from various users of the social platform »Foursquare«. These images are taken from the realtime-application which I created during the project. • Foursquare check-ins show the pulse of New York City and Tokyo

        01:06

        from Foursquare Added 89K 453 7

Every day, millions of people check in on Foursquare. We took a year's worth of check-ins in New York City and Tokyo and plotted them on a map. Each dot represents a single check-in, while the straight lines link sequential check-ins. What you can see here represents the power of check-in data -- on Foursquare, every city around the world pulses with activity around places every hour of every day. Related: Also see our data visualization of four days worth of Foursquare check-ins in New York CIty during Hurricane Sandy (and the subsequent power outage) during October 2012: http://vimeo.com/52883962.

View the project presentation on behance here. http://bit.ly/1ekM8Xp We were asked to create the opening titles for the Social Media Awards Ceremony in Greece. The brief was to create an opening video that will showcase the major award categories, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Foursquare and Pinterest. Inspired by the event's theme for the year, we decided to make a story that felt like a fairy tale and tried to create emotion to the audience using techniques found in classic puppet theater.
