This video is a brief overview of using the Cinder Deferred Rendering Block to create the two included templates ('Basic' and 'Advanced') as well as showing a shooter concept towards the end being worked on. The Deferred block runs on both Mac and Windows, and includes not only dynamic lights but also SSAO (screen-space ambient occlusion, Point-lights casting shadows, and some shader Anti-aliasing (FXAA)). Living in a large city can be overwhelming at times. There’s an over abundance of visual stimuli in just about every direction–just think about the dozens of garbage heaps you pass by, the hundreds of people you see, the thousands of advertisements you can’t avoid, all on a daily basis. Most of us have gotten into the habit of putting on metaphorical blinders every time we leave our apartments just to survive the onslaught. What we do see is almost exclusively man-made and rectilinear–buildings, billboards, sidewalk squares, crosswalks, subway cars, walk/don’t walk signs, elevators, office doors, computer screens; this list goes on. For anyone who lived in a large city like New York long enough, the thought of finding beauty in all this can seem foreign. Citisphere is an exploration into the question of how we can find a sense of beauty in even the most mundane of urban experiences–walking down a sidewalk. In the same way that one might find beauty in an ordinary leaf by focusing in on its cellular structure, this interactive video installation zooms in on a tiny piece of the urban landscape in the hopes of revealing something beautiful about the larger picture. -Eric Corriel, November 2013 DATES: DECEMBER 1, 2013-JANUARY 22, 2014 On view from sunset to sunrise, daily. After growing up on Long Island, Eric Corriel graduated from Cornell University where he received a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy while also studying Fine Art and Computer Science. He later received a Diplôme National d’Arts Plastiques (National Diploma of Fine Art), the equivalent of an MFA, focusing on Digital Art, from the École Régionale Supérieure d’Expression Plastique in Lille, France. Currently living in Brooklyn, Eric takes the urban landscape as a medium in which to create site-specific video installations in the public realm. The Window at 125 is a repurposed street level window space dedicated to showing emerging, unrepresented artists’ work to an unsuspecting midtown audience. The Roger Smith is a family run hotel in Midtown Manhattan. For over 20 years the owners and staff have been committed to shaping and growing a diverse and organic cultural footprint both within the hotel and beyond.
