In the summer of 2014 the Titze collection was celebrating its exhibition premiere at two of the Belvedere’s museums: the 21er Haus and the Winter Palace. Prince Eugene of Savoy’s former residence, which was just recently opened to the public, is not only to be a magnificent setting for historical, particularly baroque exhibits, but combinations with contemporary art shall also reveal new perspectives. Launching this exciting juxtaposition, the Belvedere has the honor of staging this first presentation of Anne and Wolfgang Titze’s wide-ranging collection of international contemporary art. The Austro-French collection includes key works of Minimal art, such as Dan Flavin’s first work using neon tubes, a floor piece by Carl Andre, specific wall objects by Donald Judd, a felt piece by Robert Morris, modular grids by Sol LeWitt, and reliefs by Fred Sandback. Pioneers of Minimalism like Agnes Martin, Frank Stella, and Robert Ryman are represented as are their European contemporaries Piero Manzoni, Giulio Paolini, and Lucio Fontana. Influential protagonists of German post-war art, such as Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, Günther Uecker, and Anselm Kiefer meet shooting stars of the American art scene including Sterling Ruby, Wade Guyton, Kelley Walker, Seth Price, and Christopher Wool. World-renowned artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Matthew Barney, Anish Kapoor, Yayoi Kusama, Sarah Lucas, Gabriel Orozco, and Jeff Wall demonstrate the variety of the globalized art world. Displayed in a scintillating interaction with the historical interior of the inner-city palace and the airy atmosphere of the 21er Haus, visitors can appreciate both the most recent trends and their origins in painting, sculpture, graphic art, and photography at exhibitions that promise a memorable encounter with an exceptional collection. The parallel exhibitions at these two venues will include works by Marina Abramovic · David Altmejd · Carl Andre · Matthew Barney · Georg Baselitz · Valérie Belin · Larry Bell · Matthew Brannon · James Lee Byars · John Chamberlain · Nigel Cooke · Richard Deacon · Thomas Demand · Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg · Olafur Eliasson · Dan Flavin · Lucio Fontana · Barnaby Furnas · Adrian Ghenie · Antony Gormley · Rodney Graham · Kevin Francis Gray · Andreas Gursky · Wade Guyton · Guyton/Walker · Eberhard Havekost · Thomas Helbig · Gregor Hildebrandt · Shirazeh Houshiary · Nathan Hylden · Kathleen Jacobs · Donald Judd · Anish Kapoor · Jacob Kassay · Anselm Kiefer · Yayoi Kusama · Claude Lévêque · Sherrie Levine · Sol LeWitt · Robert Longo · Sarah Lucas · Robert Mangold · Piero Manzoni · Christian Marclay · Agnes Martin · John McCracken · Adam McEwen · Julie Mehretu · Mario Merz · Matthew Monahan · Robert Morris · Gabriel Orozco · Damián Ortega · Giulio Paolini · Adam Pendleton · Joyce Pensato · Grayson Perry · Paola Pivi · Jaume Plensa · Seth Price · Rashid Rana · Gerhard Richter · Charles Ross · Sterling Ruby · Robert Ryman · Fred Sandback · Wilhelm Sasnal · Thomas Scheibitz · Sean Scully · Dirk Skreber · Tony Smith · Peter Stauss · Frank Stella · Rudolf Stingel · Wolfgang Tillmans · Günther Uecker · Bernar Venet · Kelley Walker · Jeff Wall · Rebecca Warren · Lawrence Weiner · Rachel Whiteread · Christopher Williams · Christopher Wool · Erwin Wurm · Lisa Yuskavage · Toby Ziegler · Thomas Zipp · Heimo Zobernig

    • JAMES PERKINS at ACE GALLERY Beverly Hills

      from jamesperkinsstudio / Added

In his first solo exhibition at Ace Gallery, James Perkins eloquently confronts money and its societal impact as an undeniably universal and unifying human experience of perception and emotion, worthy of singular artistic inquiry. Through the textile paintings and sculptures in Speculation, Perkins reflects this universal ethos through the use of mirror as looking glass. Using the suiting and shirting fabrics from his time spent on Wall Street, Perkins examines the viewer’s perception of value qua value while simultaneously channeling a historical dialogue with artistic forbearers such as Duchamp (use of the ready-made), Frank Stella (stripes and linearity) and Andy Warhol (money as the subject matter, theme and desired outcome of work). Perkins seeks to engage the viewer in the theme and heritage of perception itself. He contemplates the perception of feeling by Rothko, the perception of light and space by Turrell, the perception of scale and sculpture by Serra, the perception of fame by Warhol, the perception of color and material by Judd, the perception of art itself by Duchamp or Irwin, the perception of death by Hirst, the perception of masculinity by Young, the perception of femininity by Emin, the perception of action via Pollock, the perception of human existence by Bacon, or the perception of the banal by Koons. For Perkins, the perception of money and value in our society is necessarily a study of the gestures of success and failure, where common notions of these perceptions can be immediately turned on their head.
