Cinciditarod is a wacky shopping cart competition that begins and ends on Fountain Square. Coined after the real Alaskan Iditarod, which involves grueling 1,100 mile dog sled race, the Cincinnati version is a little less intensive and a lot more creative. While physically attached to decorated shopping carts, teams must make their way through an approximately five mile course that spans across surrounding areas of downtown. Participants must collect items provided on their grocery list, all the while performing various challenges at five pre-selected checkpoints! Special thanks to our sponsors Kroger, Messer, Igby's and Skyline and our media partners WEBN, The Project and Cincinnati Enquirer. All canned food donations benefited the Freestore Foodbank. Fountain Square is managed by 3CDC

By Savannah Stark Our Daily Bread soup kitchen in Over-the-Rhine relies heavily on bread runners, such as Patti McElroy, to deliver donated pastries and breads right to its back door. McElroy volunteers through St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, 7754 Montgomery Road, to pick up the donations from Kroger stores and drop them off at the Freestore Foodbank and Our Daily Bread. The kitchen staff works the food into a meal and serves it Monday through Friday to those in need. http://www.ucjournalism.org/archives/1246

On October 23, 2010, a horde of undead fans are going to shuffle the streets of Northern Kentucky. Although aptly named a "zombie walk," they aren't going to cause terror. They aren't going to vandalize property. In fact, the goal of this macabre mob is to dress up, walk to a set destination, and amass a collection of canned goods. What would zombies need with a stockpile of food? The only thing they claim to need are "Brains!" With hundreds of people (and counting) planning to attend the event, we see this as an excellent opportunity to have fun and help others.
