Greater Worcester Humanists welcomed Jason Torpy, president of the Military Assoc. of Atheists & Freethinkers to give us the state of affairs with regards to non-theism in the military. Contrary to the opinion "there are no atheists in foxholes," Jason told us that upwards of 20% of the military is non-theist, but it is an unwelcoming environment for them. One of his goals is to eliminate that atmosphere for those that serve our country through military service. He gives a brief overview of recent Christian prosthelytizing in Afghanistan and also reviews what we civilians can do to support military non-theists both locally, nationally and abroad. The movie is a bit over 1 hour long. The sound is pretty good, and much better after 9:30 mins (the projector fan turns off). My only problem was that I hadn't planned for Mr. Torpy to move around too much, so he is out of frame. But, you can still hear his talk.

We also reviewed the frightening poem by Edgar Allen Poe, "The Raven," and talked about the many philosophically possible ways in which we could come back from the dead.
