This is the first project in a series of hopefully many more released by Team Nine. Set in Switzerland and Iceland, Shutter Ísland tells the story of Iwan and Raphael meeting up for a fifteen day journey exploring the island in the North Atlantic. We knew that Iceland is also referred to as photographer's paradise so we packed some camera equipment and a plan for a video project. The idea was to capture the sceneries that we came across while driving and hiking, and to bring them home as a souvenir. Good memories. Today, me and my friend Eskild were looking for a location to shoot our next action video. We are planning to make a short action scene, and today we found a very nice location. Instead of just taking boring location pictures, I filmed Eskild with my EOS 550D so we could edit it and get a feeling on how this location would look like in a film. Everything was shot either handheld or with a handheld steadycam. I used only the standard lens that comes with the camera, and used only the sun as light source. It was quite nice to use the dust/sand to create smoke in the sunlight appearing from the window :) I'm very pleased with the footage, and I'm more then excited to shoot an action scene in that location one day!+ More details
The landscapes are beautiful along the river Ijssel between Kampen and Zwolle in the Netherlands. So I took my bike and went for a ride with my camera. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. ***PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE ORIGINAL VIDEO FILE TO BYPASS VIMEO'S ADDITIONAL COMPRESSION*** UPDATE: I have uploaded a ProRes file for your viewing pleasure. Please be conservative of the limited bandwidth, but please download and scrutinize the file if it is of interest to you: http://bit.ly/Ninja-ProRes SEE THE FULL UNCOMPRESSED SCREENSHOTS FOR A TRUER COMPARISON — 1920x1080 Screenshots here (remember to click through to originals): http://bit.ly/IeLNan ( download ZIPPED package of PNG files instead? http://bit.ly/Ninja-plus-D800 ) Shot using the TassinFlat picture style. You can learn more here: https://vimeo.com/24173440 (You might also look up the flaat picture profile for up to 13 stops of Dynamic Range (10 & 11 stop profiles are most usable)) Details on the Atomos Ninja + Nikon D800 settings here: https://vimeo.com/40663653 I am working on optimizing this file further so the compression is less intrusive to the Ninja footage. I also have an uncompressed ProRes 1080p file that I am working on getting online for more detailed analysis. If you are interested in hosting it (~1.3gb), I'm all ears. ;) The original file available for download (above) looks good, but the gap isn't quite as wide as with the uncompressed file. Still, the differences are enough that one should be able to see the benefits of shooting straight to the Ninja. Not only are the workflow savings significant, but the quality difference when putting footage through a grade is pronounced. More info coming soon!+ More details
This is the trailer for the upcoming 9th shortfilmfestival "Flensburger Kurzfilmtage / Tricky" in Flensburg / northern Germany. Filmed in one day on a canon 5D together with Joachim Freitag. /// Task Flensburg is a mid-to-small-size town in the north of Germany, situated around a fjord, next to the baltic sea and the border to Danmark. If you live here, especially as a teenager or young adult, you will probably like it - but you will not think it is cool. So we thought that it could be nice for the people coming to the festival to experience Flensburg in a new way - to make Flensburg look kind of urban, rotten, strange and cool - but still Flensburg. /// Team Joachim and I got to know each other through a strange phone call in which I boldly claimed to be After Effects god, not knowing that I am so much not - as he definitely is! Being close friends since then we never had the chance to work together on a film project, which is strange, since we always felt that we would be the perfect team. This is our first film together. As it turns out, we were right. He is the fallback on everything I can do better and vice versa. So we always had two DOPs on the set and two motion artists in the post, and we knew when it was better to rely on the opinion of the other for the sake of the better output in the film. There is more to come from this team in the future - trust us :-)+ More details
