Auroras of contemporary dance. Northern (de)Lights 2 is a platform for contemporary Nordic dance. This year, the three selected choreographers capture the weird and wonderful in the dance theme of the season Wonderland. Pascal Marty's Like deer in the light was created for two dancers, where he himself is one of them. The piece was inspired by the Stockholm syndrome. It has been performed previously in Katapult 2014, the dancers' workshop, where it was awarded the Katapult Dance Award and thereby became part of Northern (de)Lights 2. Pascal's thoughts about the piece: "Is submission power? What is the place of our ego towards an outside aggression? Is freedom something that you can give away or must it be taken? Do we consider ourselves strong enough to be treated as inferiors? The Stockholm syndrome is an example of a bond created between a victim and his molester – but how? Is it about abandoning our ego for someone we judge grander than us? Or is it emphasizing our ego by estimating that the aggressor is not a threat? On what plan do we place ourselves? And how much of it is conscious?" Whatever Singularity #453 – Solo for Maxime/Dancing with Alain is a solo work by Tilman O’Donnell, choreographer, a dancer and former rehearsal director at GöteborgOperans Danskompani. The French philosopher Alain Badiou is a source of inspiration and his words form the basis of the sound. In Clusterfuck, the choreographer Martin Forsberg kindles the imagination of the audience. By creating a vacuum, then filling it with lights, sounds and smells, he evokes mental images among the spectators – images that he then reverses. In The Big Noise, Irish choreographer Michael Keegan-Dolan creates a response to the Torsåker witch trials, which took place in 1675 in Ångermanland, Sweden. In one single day, 71 people were beheaded and then burned. Most were women, a couple of men and also four children. Their alleged crime was abducting children to Blåkulla, the legendary meadow where the Devil held his earthly court. The Big Noise has been created exclusively for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. When starting the rehearsals, January 2015, Michael Keegan-Dolan said: “The events of 1675 continue to bear meaning for us today. The witch trials appear to be the last great settlement between Paganism and Christianity and a victory of patriarchal society over woman. Her function as high priestess, as wise old women – is declared criminal and punishable by death. However for a shadow to exist there must be a source of light and now more than ever, we are compelled to explore this light and celebrate its infinite nature.” The Big Noise skapas direkt för GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.

Nick Caves’ music plays a central part in Your Passion is Pure Joy to Me. In the same way as the singer asks himself in his texts just how it is possible to live with painful memories, Stijn Celis has seven colourful dancers, moving with an obstinate expression, exploring the possibility of finding hope and consolation after traumatic experiences. Words as impressionistic and intimate have been used to describe this choreography, created for The Göteborg Ballet. Spanish Marina Mascarell is our next choreographer. Her works are poetic, political, intimate and socially political. After a dancing career which has included NDT 1 and 2 and Cedar Lake in New York, she now works as an international choreographer. By not staying too long in any one place, she has created her own style without being overly influenced by other artists. Her works are available at companies such as Scapino and Geneva Ballet and in the spring of 2015 also at Skåne's Dance Theatre. Marina Mascarell is also active as resident choreographer at Korzo Theater Productions in The Hague.

For "If we shadows have offended", the Norwegian choreographer Alan Lucien Øyen has been inspired by the Peter Pan-complex and by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The creation is a nostalgic flashback to the 1980s, with a strong wish to never grow up. About, the choreographer says, "grown up men who don't want to grow up." A play in and about reality in a dreamscape. Alan Lucien Øyen has been called “the most interesting up-and-coming artist in Norway” – emotional and touching. He runs his own company, Winter Guests, and has choreographed creations for Skånes Dansteater as well as for the Norwegian National Ballet. He has been awarded numerous international prizes for his work. ”My pieces are often about our fear of death. A fear which becomes more intense when your own parents are dead and you're next in line. We also live in a society where many people are afraid to grow up. Neverland has grown out of my wish to explore the Peter-Pan complex: what does it mean to never grow up?” ALAN LUCIEN ØYEN Choreography, set deign and text Alan Lucien Øyen Assistant Choreographer Daniel Proietto Costume design Stine Sjøgren Light design Martin Flack Sound design Gunnar Innvær Guest artist Kate Strong Dancers from GöteborgsOperans Danskompani Angelina Allen Nigel Campbell Jim De Block Simone Deriu Matthew Foley Toby Kassell Maxime Lachaume Fan Luo Pascal Marty Jonathan Savage Ján Špoták Oleg Stepanov Lee-Yuan Tu More info: http://en.opera.se/forestallningar/shadowland-neverland-2014-2015/
