Shale gas drilling is changing the lives of many Pennsylvanians, in ways good and bad. Shale gas drilling has expanded in the state rapidly – and so has the environmental and social movement expressing concerns about the short and long term impacts of the industry. Gas Rush Stories follows Dana Dolney, a cancer survivor turned "fractivist”, on her mission to protect people and democracy. She visits Woodlands, a community north of Pittsburgh, where several families lost their water supply after shale gas drilling began in the area. Environmental authorities say that the water in Woodlands is fit to drink, but locals disagree. -This is not just a drilling problem, this is a democracy problem, Dana Dolney says. Shale gas drilling boom has changed the lives of many Pennsylvanians in ways good and bad. Two-thirds of Pennsylvania sits on top of Marcellus shale, one of the world's largest shale gas deposits. While some other states and countries are taking their time to figure out how to proceed with shale gas drilling, Pennsylvania has welcomed the gas industry and allowed it to move ahead in a rapid speed. A documentary filmmaker and journalist Kirsi Jansa has been following and witnessing the various impacts of the shale gas drilling boom in Pennsylvania since the spring of 2011. A 16-minute documentary “Life above Marcellus Shale 2011-2012” provides multiple perspectives of shale gas drilling. It is based on the first 10 episodes of her short documentary series “Gas Rush Stories”.

Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania is a major landowner and therefore a focus of interest for the gas industry. The board of the organization, a microcosm of the larger society, thoughtfully examined the issue from different perspectives to determine whether or not it should lease its land for gas drilling. What will Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania do next time that the landman knocks at their door asking them to sign a lease? Watch this episode of Gas Rush Stories and find out.
