Gavi Alliance asked us to create an info graphic piece for their pledging conference held in London on June 13th 2011. The animation needed to highlight the already substantial success of the Gavi and re-enforce the goals for the following five years. Using stats, iconography and kinetic typography we weaved an engaging and striking animation which was used around the conference event site and as a large projection backdrop for key speeches. Led by UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Microsoft tycoon Bill Gates the conference asked attending countries to give an extra $3.7 billion by 2015 to fund vaccines against two of the biggest killers of children - pneumonia and diarrhoeal disease. The conference was a huge success and raised $4.3 billion. We like to think we contributed in a small way towards that massive success.

Pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines offer the opportunity could save as many as one million child lives every year. But rolling these new vaccines out to developing countries needs donor support. On 13 June, a Pledging Conference in London aims to raise the extra US$ 3.7 billion need for the GAVI Alliance's programme to immunise nearly a quarter billion children by 2015. Sierra Leone has one of the world's highest infant mortality rates. Mothers and doctors give an emotional appeal to donors to support two new vaccines to fight pneumonia and diarrhoea. It may not seem the best time for the delivery of life-saving vaccines to poor countries to depend on the world’s capital markets, but a deal brokered by Britain’s prime minister, Gordon Brown, has so far delivered nearly 2 billion dollars for just that purpose. It’s called the International Finance Facility for Immunisation, (IFFIm) and it’s credited with saving more three million children's lives by delivering basic vaccines. But how does it work, how much does it cost and is it right to take money from future aid budgets to deliver vaccines today?
