Larry Wessels, Director of Christian Answers of Austin, Texas/ Christian Debater is joined in studio at Austin's major Christian radio station by Steve Morrison, webmaster of Christian Debater's websites: BIBLEQUERY ORG, HISTORYCART COM, & MUSLIMHOPE COM for a discussion on the religious superstition known as ASTROLOGY. ASTROLOGY is the belief that national destinies & individual destinies are predetermined by the relative positions of the stars in the sky as they correlate to the planet earth. An astrologer believes that the arrangement of stars, planets, & constellations at the time of one's birth sets a determined pattern in the life of that person. Oriental or Chinese astrology has twelve "signs" or animals (i.e., rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog & pig) which correspond to twelve different years. Western astrology has twelve signs for twelve houses in one year. Astrology was thought to be a science until the sixteenth century, when the Copernican Revolution challenged the popularly held geocentric view of Ptolemy's astological zodiac (which considered the earth as the center of the universe & that the earth was flat). Astrology is easily refuted by modern astronomy (example, above the latitude 66 degrees it cannot be calculated what point the zodiac is ascending on the horizon) but this has not diminished popular contemporary belief in this superstition. Because of the occultic nature of religious astrology it is greatly condemned throughout the Bible (2 Kings 17:16, 23:5; Isaiah 47:13, Amos 5:26, Acts 7:39-43, 13:6-12, etc.). Astrology originated most likely in ancient Mesapotamia with the Babylonians being famous for their religious worship of the stars. Astrology is therefore incompatible with Biblical doctrine & practice. Lee Meckley is the host of this "Christian Answers Live!" radio broadcast.

    • Lone Eagles: America's First Orbital Spaceflights

from Linda Hall Library / Added

September 23, 2009, at the Linda Hall Library. Mercury 7 astronaut Commander Scott Carpenter (USN, ret.) with novelist Thomas Mallon and historian Kris Stoever. About the lecture: "Godspeed, John Glenn." So intoned Scott Carpenter on the morning of February 20, 1962, as his friend and colleague roared into space aboard Friendship 7. Carpenter himself would follow with his own solo flight aboard Aurora 7 three months later. Along with Glenn, Scott Carpenter was among the nation's original seven astronauts, selected fifty years ago. The only Americans who would ever go into space alone, the men of Project Mercury faced a staggering array of engineering and biological uncertainties. The booster rockets that were to get them to space kept blowing up during tests, and some aeromedical experts doubted that the astronauts' lungs and hearts would be able to sustain the gravitational pressures of launch. And yet, over the next four years, Project Mercury enjoyed spectacular success, setting America on an accelerated course toward the moon and turning its original seven astronauts into enduring legends of the Cold War. On September 23, 2009, the Linda Hall Library hosted a rare conversation with Commander Carpenter about Project Mercury and his own solo spaceflight.

It began with the beat of the drum. With the beat, came a voice for those without one. From this voice, came a movement. Overcoming the odds, the originators of hip hop took their music from block parties of New York City streets to world wide radio waves. During the early years, the music and message reached new heights by exploring humanity, politics, and street life, while keeping it real and having fun. But what ever happened to hip hop? Currently the most pervasive music worldwide, its roots have been forgotten, its message perverted. With hip hop in the spotlight, it's time to put it back on track. This documentary presents views from hip hop founders, contributors, and artists in an attempt to return its audience to the four principles: Peace, Love, Unity, and Having Fun
