In 1978 I was George Kuchar's teaching assistant for his "Dramatic Narrative" class. George brought in a poem called "Ode to a Truck Driver" that served as a basis for the story. I have a dim recollection of quickly writing a song for the movie and performing it with Mitch McNeil. For us this was a radical departure from our usual obsession with Avant Garde German 12-tone composers and free jazz. The lyric sheet was on the floor in front of me. I recut some of this video excerpt to sample many of the George's Hollywood B movie inspired images, as we tried our best to stretch the meager budget for props and costumes. If anyone knows any of the students in the film please have the contact us.

I remember the first day of class, George brought in that column from the Utah Herald Star, the ode to the truck driver, by Dan Armstrong (?), and read it aloud to us, with feeling, selling the concept. Hilarious! Then we quickly got down to business and watched THE THING by Howard Hawks. He owned as print, of course. Stu and I shine in the roadhouse performance sequence. Rig Rock never sounded better. -Mitch McNeil

Working with George Kuchar and associated creeps circa 1994. A study in how dark is too dark working with Super-8 push developing. Not as successful as some things - partly the time and place. Fridays were long days. I picked up the film while running errands for Kuchar - he thought I had billed him for it.

An exquisite-corpse story of a film show gone wrong. I was inspired by Mike Walsh's play by play of the event, so I asked him to do it again while I filmed. Afterward,I looked for anybody else who had was there to get their account. It took about two days to film, three days to edit, and then it was done.

After a disaster road trip to the Pacific Northwest with a miserable co-pilot, I found myself riding back home to Los Angeles solo. After realizing that I was not going to make it to Los Angeles in time for the much anticipated premiere for Daniel Levitch's SWINE, I decided to step aside, and take a trip to Yosemite. This is one of my many national park travelogues. It is part of an ongoing series.
