        A short test to demonstrate the difference between the Standard, Cinema, Smooth and Nostalgic picture profiles found on the GH2. It's quite interesting to see the difference in video format! I'd encourage downloading a higher quality original if you can. Personally, from this test, I'd avoid Cinema profile if I'm shooting low light. It exposes a darker image which could require an ISO bump that might not be needed with the other settings. From the test I think I prefer the Smooth with -2,-2,0,0 but please be the judge of it yoursel! All other setting, exposure, ISO, white balance were the same between shots.

          I just received my Fotodiox micro four thirds to EOS lens adapter. I tested the only two canon lenses I own which are the Canon EF 50mm 1.4 and the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8. Both lenses produced some really nice images especially the 50mm 1.4. Sorry for the shakiness on the 50mm 1.4 test, The camera body wasn't fully locked into the tripod base plate so follow focus was giving it the shakiness you see in the footage. Both lenses aperture were wide open. No Grading log & transferred from the SDHC card into Final Cut pro, Apple Prores 422. Panasonic GH2 Settings: ISO: 640 Aperture: Sigma: 2.8___Canon 50mm: 1.4 Shutter: 1/50 Cinema Mode: Frame Rate: 24p Thoughts on the Gh2: I just received the GH2 on Friday from Unique Photo I had the chance to do one other test. which can be found here. http://vimeo.com/18374328 Not the best test footage due to it being graded. This was more of an art piece that I have been wanting to do for some time. I am very pleased with the GH2 so far, like I said I have only owned the camera for 4 days but it seems to perform well. I am getting use to the menus, I am use to the Canon Rebel T2i which is a camera that I love. It was a mission to get my hands on the GH2 since it's sold out pretty much everywhere. According to Unique photo they are getting shipments on a daily basis. The best part is the price. I picked up the GH2 body for $737 and paid $164 for the 14-42mm Lumix lens. Smoking hot deal it came brand new sealed in the box. Pictures of the lenses mounted on the GH2 http://picasaweb.google.com/mrk177/LENSTEST?feat=email# It gives the camera more of a serious look to it. The 14-42mm makes the GH look like a toy in my opinion. Which doesn't matter really in the end it's all about making the best possible story and shooting nice footage.

          • GH2 Test - Noise problems - poor dynamic range? {Test film}

            This is a quick test shot from the roof of my work at sunrise to test the dynamic range of the camera. You will notice some bonkers lines of noise running horizontal from the silhouette of the middle building down to the bottom of the screen...It disappears when I achieve a more balanced exposure, but I love silhouettes against the sun, and I want to be able to under expose my images in this way without the noise. I would suggest it's might have something to do with the tele crop mode being selected however I shot a wider version without it and still displayed similar lines of noise in the shadow areas. I don't know if this type of problem has a particular name as i'm new to DSLR video, but any help determining if it's a problem with a faulty sensor or a "characteristic" of the camera, would be most helpful. Apologies for the shaky cam, it was a spur of the moment test without my tripod and was flipping freeezing up there. Settings: 1920x1080 24p Cinema Mode (24H) Rec mode Smooth (-2 contrast, -2 sharpness, -1 saturation, +2 noise reduction) I.Dynamic OFF I.Resolution OFF Kit lens 14-42mm, fully zoomed Tele Crop ON ISO 160 1/50 Shutter F - 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, 13, 11, 10, 9 Untreated. MTS file is straight out of camera.

              (english description below) A l'heure où la 3d est reine, les images de synthèses omniprésentes, une autre manière de voir l'image pointe son nez, le HDR où High Dynamic Range. J'ai utilisé ce procédé pour le clip "Actif-Passif", de l'artiste Philippe G tourné au gh1 qui a nécessité une semaine de travail.
