Greetings everyone! My name is Josphat Keya (24) from Kibera Nairobi-Kenya. I have just received a scholarship to go attend a film fellowship at the Ghetto Film School in the Bronx USA for two months (July-August 2011). I am a trained filmmaker at Kibera Film School. For the first time in my life I will travel outside the African continent. I will represent the youth of Kibera, our hopes, our talents, and our possibilities. No youth in Kibera has ever achieved such an honour. I am humbled and proud at the same time. But there is a limitation and a challenge to this honour. My family and community have no funds to pay for me to stay in New York. I am sharing this video with you to hear my story, and also see how my community has reacted to this. You can join my community of supporter’s at http://www.globalgiving.org/3632 Your donations will make it possible for me to accept the Ghetto Film School film fellowship program and return to Kibera to inspire and train other slum youth. Thank You, Asante Sana.

                    from 3BL Media / Added

Today’s guest blog comes from Steve Rosenthal, founder of Cross-Cultural Solutions. Cross-Cultural Solutions is Lilly’s primary partner for Connecting Hearts Abroad, a global employee volunteer program introduced by Lilly in 2011. People usually think of great partnerships in terms of what the partnership accomplishes for each of the involved parties. The Connecting Hearts Abroad partnership is great for Eli Lilly and Company and it’s certainly great for Cross-Cultural Solutions (CCS). But what takes this partnership to a special place is what it does for others around the world. For CCS, Lilly volunteers are some of the best we’ve ever had – full of enthusiasm and energy for our mission and so knowledgeable about the global health issues that affect communities worldwide. For Lilly, the Connecting Hearts Abroad program fulfils its corporate responsibility goals on an international scale, encouraging employees to form new relationships, experientially broaden their understanding of global health challenges, and bring those learnings back, making Lilly an even stronger, more globally aware company. from 3BL Media / Added

Today is Giving Tuesday, which signifies an opportunity for us to give back to the causes that are important to us as a company and as individuals. The good news: GlobalGiving offers Lilly employees—and you—a chance to make a global impact. GlobalGiving is a charity fundraising website that gives social entrepreneurs and nonprofits from anywhere in the world a chance to raise money they need to improve their communities. You do not have to be a Lilly employee to donate to GlobalGiving projects, as anyone outside Lilly can give. Currently, some of its most popular projects include providing meals for children in India, rebuilding a community center in Mexico, and saving mammals in Cambodia.
